    摘要: The present invention is a connector which connects a first control line in a downhole well tool to a second control line. The connector may include a main body having a longitudinal bore therethrough, a tubular extension threadably secured within a mounting bore in the well tool, and a metal seal ring disposed between a shoulder on the tubular extension of the main body and having an outer conical surface engaged with a conical surface of the mounting bore. The connector may also include a sealing sleeve having a longitudinal bore including a first conical surface adjacent a first end of the sealing sleeve and a second conical surface adjacent a second end of the sealing sleeve; a first ferrule, a second ferrule, and a third ferrule, each being an annular member having an outer conical surface and disposed within the longitudinal bore of the main body. The first ferrule is disposed about the second control line, the outer conical surface of the first ferrule is engaged with the first conical surface on the sealing sleeve; the second ferrule is disposed about the first control line, the outer conical surface of the second ferrule is engaged with the second conical surface on the sealing sleeve; and the third ferrule is disposed about the first control line, the outer conical surface of the third ferrule is engaged with a first conical bore in the main body. A tubular spacer member can be disposed about the first control line and between the second and third ferrules. The connector can further comprise a retaining fitting having a longitudinal bore therethrough and threadably secured within the longitudinal bore of the retaining fitting and the longitudinal bore on the sealing sleeve.

    摘要: The invention provides an eccentric subsurface safety valve that may include an eccentric body member having a thick side, a thin side, and a longitudinal bore therethrough. A closure member, such as a curved flapper, is mounted within the body member to control fluid flow through the longitudinal bore, and is moveable between an open and a closed position. The curved flapper may be disposed within a recess in the thick side of the eccentric body member when in its open position. A valve actuator, such as a flow tube, may be disposed within the body member and remotely shiftable to move the curved flapper between its open and closed positions. The flow tube may be shifted downwardly in response to movement of a piston. At least one return spring and/or a contained volume of pressurized gas may be provided to urge the flow tube away from the curved flapper. The piston may be connected to an eccentric plate slidably disposed about the flow tube and between a first and a second shoulder on the flow tube. A glide spring may be disposed about the flow tube and between the eccentric plate and one of the first and second flow tube shoulders to absorb forces imparted to the flow tube by the curved flapper upon closing. The present invention allows an increase in the inside diameter of the valve without increasing the outside diameter of the valve.

    摘要: A non-damaging slip assembly includes slips having grit on a smooth surface, the slips preferably made from a ductile material, such that the slips do not cause damage to the wall of a tubular when the slips are set. The slips fail under tensile force during setting. The cone used to expand the slips may have slits that narrow during setting of the slips. The slip assembly may be used to anchor a variety or devices inside a tubular. A drillable, non-damaging bridge plug using the non-damaging slip assembly has a threaded mandrel holding the cone by threads inside the cone. When the slips are set, the slits in the cone narrow such that threads in the cone do not allow rotation of the slips as they are drilled. The bridge plug can be drilled by a PDC bit without damaging the tubular.

    摘要: A storm plug for temporarily isolating an offshore well in deep water includes a retrievable service packer connected to a valve housing containing a movable isolation sleeve and a standing valve. The standing valve precludes the fluid flow through a portion of the isolation sleeve. The isolation sleeve being hydraulically actuated from an open position to a closed position. In the open position, fluid may flow through flow ports in the standing valve to an annular bypass area between the valve housing and the isolation sleeve. In the closed position, the isolation sleeve prevents fluid flow through the valve housing. The valve may be hydraulically actuated as compared to conventional storm valve that are set by workstring rotation. The running tool used to run the storm plug into the well may be hydraulically disconnected from the valve housing.

    摘要: Presented is a subsurface safety valve in which the flapper mount, hard seat and spring housing have been integrated into a single assembly. To accommodate a “soft seat insert,” a special retainer soft seat ring and soft seat seal are provided. The soft seat seal fits over a conical protruding surface (hard seat) that surrounds the main bore of the safety valve on the bottom side of the spring housing. The retainer ring fits over the soft seat seal and holds it in place against the conical surface. Notches along the perimeter of an upper flanged end of the soft seat seal prevent gases, such as nitrogen, from becoming trapped behind the seal and potentially damaging it during a rapid decompression event. A gap between the upper flanged end of the soft seat seal and the lower spring housing allow the seal to move up and down the conical protruding surface as the flapper opens and closes, reducing compression of the seal and the risk of a compression set due to repeated opening and closing of the flapper.

    摘要: A communication tool apparatus is described which is adapted to provide selective communication of control fluid through a downhole device such as a safety valve. The downhole safety valve is a tubing retrievable subsurface safety valve (“TRSSSV”). The communication tool may be run downhole and within the TRSSSV. Once within the TRSSSV, the communication tool apparatus activates a cutting device within the TRSSSV such that communication of control fluid through the TRSSSV is possible. A replacement safety valve run on a wireline may then be inserted into the TRSSSV and be operated via the control fluid line, as a new communication path created by the communication tool described herein. A method of using the communication tool apparatus is also described.

The ball launch pods are operatively associated with a flow tube disposed within the housing. Further rotation of the flow tube aligns subsequent openings in the flow tube with subsequent corresponding ball launch pods so that subsequent balls are launched into the wellbore.
