    摘要: A display device for detecting light includes a display surface, at least one light sensitive element arranged behind the display surface, and a liquid crystal element arranged between the display surface and the at least one light sensitive element. The liquid crystal element is operative to polarization shift light incident on the at least one light sensitive element based on an orientation of the plurality of molecules. The display device further includes at least one electrode operative to change an orientation of the plurality of molecules. The at least one electrode is patterned to define a geometry of at least one field of view of the at least one light sensitive element. A controller is electrically coupled to the at least one electrode, wherein the controller is configured to apply a voltage to the at least one electrode to effect selection of the at least one field of view.

    摘要: A display panel incorporates the functionality to determine the three dimensional position of a light reflecting or emitting object (400, 401, 410) in front of a display surface (100). An array of sensors (310) is disposed in the panel and provided with optical arrangements such as apertures in masks (321, 331) within the panel. These arrangements prevent light incident normally on the display surface (100) from reaching the sensors (310) but allow obliquely incident light (602, 604) to reach the sensors (310). The object position is determined by analyzing the sensor responses.

This causes the phosphor (105,113) to emit visible light with a Lambertion-type emission pattern. An optical system such as a reflector (102,115) concentrates the light from the phosphor (105,113). The phosphor (105,113) is thermally connected to a heatsink (103,116), of example by a plate (114) of sapphire glass, so as to dissipate the heat produced by the phosphor (105,113). The phosphor (105) may be mounted on a plane reflector (104) disposed on or comprising the heatsink (103) and facing a curved reflector (102) and the radiation source. Alternatively, the optical system may have an optical axis and the phosphor (113) may be substantially flat and inclined with the respect to the optical axis.

    摘要: An illumination panel is provided, for example for use as a backlight for illuminating an at least partially transmissive display (1). The panel comprises a light source (18), for example in the form of a light emitting diode which emits light in a relatively narrow waveband. A light guide (3) receives the light from an edge surface and guides light by total internal reflection. Combined light extraction and phosphor elements (19) on at least one of the major surfaces of the light guide (3) permit extraction of the light but also convert at least some of the light from the light source (18) to a different visible waveband. By locating the combined phosphor and extraction features at least partially inside the lightguide (3) it is possible to control the angular distribution of the extracted light and, in particular, to arrange for the variation of intensity with angle of light extracted without wavelength conversion to be substantially the same as the variation of intensity with angle of light emitted with wavelength conversion.

    摘要: A backlight is provided for illuminating an at least partially transmissive display. The backlight includes a light source. A light guide receives the light from an edge surface and guides the light by total internal reflection. Groove structures which are located on at least one of the major surfaces of the light guide permit redistribution of light around obstacles that may be present within the light guide structure, thereby maintaining brightness uniformity of the backlight or illumination panel.
