The method for transmitting/receiving wireless data includes the steps of: establishing a catalog of information related to the application data service; adding header information of each layer by referring to the catalog established in the above step, and error detecting codes to the application data; deciphering a header if data errors are detected by the error detecting codes added to the data during the reception, and transmitting the data to the upper ranking layer according to the quality of service, if the deciphered value of the header belongs to the catalog established in the above step.

A wireless packetization apparatus for transmitting/receiving multimedia data including video data in a radio transmitting/receiving system, and a method thereof are provided. According to the present invention, error resilience can be increased by adding an error detection code and a corruption indication flag to header information on a radio link protocol (RLP) layer when multimedia data such as video data requiring real time or low delay is transmitted and received in a wireless environment, and a packet drop rate can be thereby reduced.

Thus, in the motion vector prediction method based on the image signal compression method of the MPEG-4 or H.263 standard, the motion vector prediction is performed with continuity and correlation among the motion vectors, so that two-way decoding is possible during transmission of blocks with a predetermined packet, resulting in better error resilient characteristics.

A method and computer program product for performing error control of video bitstream data encoded according to a data partition technique used in communication through a wireless channel. The method includes the steps of (a) partitioning video bitstream data into units of information items having certain characteristics and encoding the video bitstream data, (b) calculating a checksum for controlling errors in each partitioned unit of the encoded video bitstream data, (c) constituting a packet, in which each checksum calculated in a the step (b) is added to the encoded video bitstream data and transmitting the packet through a wireless communication channel, and (d) receiving the packet transmitted in the step (c) and checking whether there is an error in each partitioned unit of the encoded video bitstream data through the checksum of each partitioned unit of the encoded video bitstream data. According to the above method, it is possible to effectively detect the errors of the respective partitioned video bitstream data items and to use partial data without abandoning the entire video bitstream packet when errors occur in a specific portion of the video bitstream data by calculating the CRCs of the respective partition regions of the video bitstream data encoded according to a data partition technique.

In this method, a source is encoded into a bit stream using a predetermined type of coding. Then, the encoded bit stream is transmitted to each communication protocol layer, while the header of each communication protocol layer is added to a payload. A wide band radio transmission method, apparatus and computer readable medium for transmitting bit streams of a video-related application through a radio channel are provided. The wide band radio transmission method comprises the steps of: (a) obtaining identification information on a video-related application which is executed in a user layer, from the user layer; (b) obtaining information on at least one of channel characteristics and a decoding state from a physical layer; and (c) deciding on a quality of service (QoS) level with reference to the identification information and the information on at least one of the channel characteristics and the decoding state from the physical layer. The wide band radio transmission method can efficiently support video-related applications such as applications of the H.324M standard, the H.323 standard, the H.320 standard, and the MPEG-4 standard. Also, negotiations on video services having different quality of service (QoS) levels can be performed, and then, optimum video services considering channel characteristics can be provided.

The method includes transmitting a codec selection request frame, the codec selection request frame including an identifier of one or more codecs to be used to compress video content and requesting approval of the use of the codec, receiving a codec selection response frame, the codec selection response frame including result information indicating whether the use of the codec is approved, and transmitting video content frames for the video content compressed by the approved codec based on the codec selection response frame. Each video content frame includes frame type information indicating a type of compression applied to the video content included in the video content frame.
