A pair of scrolls is maintained at an angular and radial offset to make a plurality of line contacts between the spiral curved surfaces, which define fluid pockets. A driving mechanism is operatively connected to one of the scrolls to effect relative orbital motion with respect to the other scrolls to thereby change the volume of the fluid pockets. The spiral element of each scroll member has a stepped cross-section. As a result, the mechanical strength of the spiral elements of the scroll member of the fluid displacement apparatus is increased and the fluid displacement apparatus has increased durability and efficiency.

The ink ribbon is divided into at least three colors in a width direction thereof and has first through third ink parts extending in a longitudinal direction thereof. The thermal printing head is arranged at such a location that the ink ribbon is interposed between the head and the printing paper. The head comprises first through third heating element groups respectively opposing the first through third ink parts of the ink ribbon, and the first through third heating element groups each has at least one heating element which is selectively heated depending on a color information signal which is indicative of a color picture or the like which is to be printed. The first through third heating element groups simultaneously print a plurality of different lines by use of the ink coated on the first through third ink parts. The operations of the paper feeding mechanism and the head moving mechanism are controlled by the control circuit.

A swash plate-type, variable displacement compressor according to the present invention has a structure wherein the shoe holding portion of the piston sandwiches the swash plate from inside. The swash plate is connected to the rotor by a pin which extends in a direction tangential to a surface of a virtual cylinder around an axis of the drive shaft so as to be capable of swinging with respect to the pin. Especially, the position of the pin in the axial direction of the drive shaft is selected, so that a piston top clearance of a piston which is in a top dead center position becomes zero. By this configuration, the piston top clearance of all the pistons may be maintained at zero for all oblique angles of the swash plate. As a result, for any oblique angle, the volumetric efficiency of the compressor may be improved.
