摘要: This apparatus relates to a data carrier which rotates about an axis and on which a track is provided for containing said data, said track spiraling around a center, which apparatus comprises an angle measurer for many purposes. For obtaining this angular position information, for example an eccentricity measurer is used. The eccentricity is defined by the non-coincidence of the center and the axis. Application: The invention is well suited to small-size optical discs, CD systems, DVD systems, and Blu-Ray systems.

摘要: When writing data to an optic disc with a constant linear velocity, and encountering a disc error, data is written into the defect management area of the disc without changing the rotational speed of the disc, or at least without changing the rotational speed of the disc sufficiently to maintain a constant linear velocity. This allows an increase in the rate at which data may be written to the optical disc. It also avoids or reduces the need for the rotational speed of the disc to be changed, which allows a further improvement in the time taken to write data to the disc. In order to continue writing data to the disc without changing the rotational speed, the data rate must be increased while writing to the defect management area. For this to be possible, the data must be written into an “iced” or unformatted part of the defect management area.

摘要: A device for recording records information in blocks having logical addresses at a physical address (52) in a track on a record carrier. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses in dependence of defect management information, such as remapping tables, maintained in defect management areas. For avoiding remapping of real time information, such as video, a series of blocks (42) having a continuous logical address range is recorded in a corresponding allocated physical address range. In the event of a defect interrupting the allocated physical address range local offset information is generated for adding an offset to a local range of physical addresses in said address translation for skipping (61) the defect. The blocks logically following the last block before the defect are written at physical addresses following the defect, and an end portion (62) that extends beyond the allocated physical address range due to the defect, is accommodated elsewhere.

摘要: A recording system (75) includes a broadcast receiver (210) for receiving broadcast programmes, and a download receiver (280) for requesting and receiving content parts of a broadcast programme from a server (90). A controller (250) determines whether an instruction for recording a broadcast programme would exceed a capacity for recording and playback of programmes during at least part of the corresponding broadcast period. If so, the controller instructs a recorder (290) to record content parts of the broadcast programme during a part of the broadcast period in which the capacity is not exceeded and stores an identification of a content part of the broadcast programme that could not be recorded. It determines a period in which the capacity of the recorder is not exceeded and ensures that the not recorded content parts are downloaded from the server in the determined period and recorded.

摘要: This apparatus is designed for processing information stored in a data carrier in which information can be stored in many layers (L0, L1, . . . ) Often said information is arranged in files and related sub-files. It is proposed to arrange the file and the related sub-file in the same vicinity so that a displacement from the main file to a related sub-file is quickly made and vice versa. Application: video streams, for example, which have a certain quality level. For example, the quality is good for usage on a small portable screen. If a user wants to display this stream on a (large) screen, the enhancement sub-files placed in other layers can be used, which provides additional quality to the base layer stream.

摘要: A device for recording records blocks of information on logical addresses on a record carrier at corresponding physical addresses. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses in dependence on defect management information that includes defect information on a defective status of physical addresses and remapping information on translating a logical address initially mapped to an initial physical address to an alternate physical address. The device has a real-time storage unit for writing real-time information blocks (77) to respective initial physical addresses irrespective of the defective status. When recording at a defective status location (76), the real-time information block is temporarily stored in a memory (80). In a separate period, when the writing of real-time information blocks is suspended, said temporarily stored real-time information blocks are additionally written to alternate physical addresses (81). The defect management information (73) is updated to indicate that the real-time information block is present at both locations.

摘要: A device for recording records information in blocks having logical addresses in a storage space on a record carrier. The device has an interfacing unit (31) for communicating with a host system by exchanging commands and information, a record carrier status unit (32) for detecting a record carrier update status in which information stored on the record carrier is to be changed, and an update unit (33) for initiating an unmount-mount sequence. The unmount-mount sequence is initiated by the device and starts with an unmount process (42) for, via the interfacing means, forcing the host system to relieve control of the record carrier. Then the device has taken control and performs an update process (44) for said changing of information on the record carrier. Finally the control is returned to the host by a mount process (45) that forces the host system to accept the changed information.

摘要: The invention described relates to a method and apparatus for recording and/or reproducing information on an information track of an information disc. The method comprising the steps of: a) directing a read-write-head to a current radial position along of the information disc, b) rotating the information disc about a point of rotation, where the rotation speed is controlled in dependence of the current radial position of the read-write-head such that the information passes the read-write-head at a predetermined constant linear velocity, at least for a part of the information track, c) performing a current read-write-action at the current radial position, d) directing the read-write-head to a next radial position along the information disc, where the rotation speed is controlled such that a current rotation speed is changed to a target rotation speed to attain said predetermined constant linear velocity at the next radial position, e) performing a next read-write-action at the next radial position, characterized in that the method further comprises the steps of, f) determining the next radial position of the read-write-head while still performing the current read-write-action, g) determining the target rotation speed on the basis of the next radial position, the current rotation speed being changed towards the target rotation speed while the current read-write-action is still being performed. The information disc rotates with a constant angular velocity (CLV). When jumping from one track to another track the speed is already changed before the actual jumping is performed and the current read-write-action is still being performed. This results in a time gain because the rotation speed of the information disc is sooner achieved, so that the next read-write-action can be performed sooner.
