A bearing retaining nut arrangement that permits the loading or evaluating of a bearing inner race is also provided. The bearing retaining nut arrangement includes a first load-setting nut, a lock washer, and a second jam nut that secures the arrangement to a shaft.

The axle nut includes a cylindrical body having a first end, a second end having a face adapted to bear against a surface, a longitudinal axis, and an outer surface engagable by a tool; a threaded through-hole directed substantially along the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical body; and at least one recess in the face of the second end of the cylindrical body, the at least one recess adapted to expose at least a portion of the surface the face bears against. The first end of the axle may comprise a nut locking mechanism, for example, the nut locking mechanism may include a counter bore having a plurality of internal projections, such as, gear or spline teeth.

    摘要: A system for use in measuring an end play of a wheel hub assembly includes a cap attachable to a shaft of a wheel hub assembly. A frame has a cavity receiving a measurement probe extending outwardly from the cavity. The probe contacts the cap and is configured to measure movement of the cap to determine endplay of the bearing assembly on the shaft. The frame includes a plurality of legs extending from the frame to mount on the shaft. The legs contain torque sockets and torque limiters which are threadably engaged and tightened onto lugs of the wheel hub assembly without exceeding a preselected torque. The torque sockets allow the frame and system to be used on hub assemblies having wheels thereon without removal of the wheels from the hub assemblies or lug nuts from the lugs supporting the wheel.

    摘要: An apparatus for providing a load on a bearing mounted to a shaft includes an attaching member and a press mechanism. The attaching member is releasably connected to the shaft. The press member is coupled to the attaching member and is configured to provide a compressive load to the bearing. The press mechanism includes an aligning arm configured to engage a shaft slot of the shaft to align the press mechanism relative to the shaft when the attaching member connects to the shaft. A lock nut is engageable with the shaft and has a plurality of engaging teeth configured to engage a plurality of keeper teeth of a keeper. The nut includes an outer surface having a plurality of markings corresponding to a plurality of roots of the plurality of engaging teeth to allow a user to selectively rotate the nut relative to the aligning arm to an engaging position such that a radially inner side of the keeper engages a slot of the shaft when the keeper teeth engage the engaging teeth of the nut.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in providing a load on a bearing mounted to a shaft includes a setting gage configured to be received on a shaft and configured to engage a nut on the shaft. The gage includes an inner portion and an outer portion rotatable relative to each other. The inner portion includes an outer perimeter contacting an inner perimeter of the outer portion. The inner portion has an inner opening having an inner circumference mirroring a shape of the shaft and shaped to inhibit movement between the inner portion and the shaft when the shaft is received in the inner opening. The outer portion has an outer circumference comprising at least one radially projecting member configured to engage the nut to inhibit movement between the outer portion and the nut when the gage engages the nut. The inner portion includes a start position indicator on the outer perimeter and a stop position indicator on the outer perimeter. The start position indicator includes a start position for a marker of the outer portion. The stop position includes a stop position for the marker when the outer portion is rotated from the start position toward the stop position such that the marker is aligned with the stop position to achieve a desired amount of endplay of a bearing mounted to the shaft.

    摘要: One or more force application members (e.g., a force transmission member and/or a hydraulic force application member) may be employed to provide a desired adjustment (e.g., a preload and/or a compression) to an adjustable spacer of a bearing assembly. The hydraulic force application member may provide a first stage of the adjustment to the spacer, and the force transmission member may be threadingly rotated to apply a second stage of the adjustment to the spacer. An additional force application member may (e.g., contemporaneously) oppose at least one of the force application members in the providing of the adjustment to the spacer. This opposing force may cause a gap between certain surfaces (e.g., in a press) until the adjustment to the spacer is completed. The closure of the gap may serve to indicate the completion of the desired adjustment to the spacer. A housing rotatable on a portion of the bearing assembly may be prevented from rotating at the closure of the gap. Such an increased drag torque of the housing may be observed and employed to terminate an operation of at least one of the force application members. One or more gage parts may be located in the bearing assembly to assist the providing of the adjustment to the spacer. An adjustment of an axial dimension of at least one of the gage parts, may be made based on one or more factors and/or characteristics (e.g., endplay in the bearing assembly).
