    摘要: An instrument for measuring cervical dilation can have a pair of arms connected at their proximal ends to an arm pivot or articulating member, the arms being in movable communication with a gauge assembly for measuring the relative distance between the arms at a fixed location near the proximal ends of the arms. The arms can be disposed to apply an outward lateral pressure against the walls of the cervix, thereby engaging the cervix without the need for physical penetration, gripping, or other attachment of the device to the cervical tissue. Continuous outward lateral pressure of the arms against the cervical walls can allow the arms to expand in response to and in concert with expansion and dilation of the cervix. The relative distance between the arms correlates to the diameter of the cervix, such that the correlated measurement indicated on a scale of the gauge means is the measurement of cervical dilation.

    摘要: A traction device for vehicle wheels has an expandable and contractible member mounted next to the vehicle wheel. The traction device has a tire with extending studs that is expandable by air pressure to increase the diameter of the tire. The tire is contracted by releasing the pressurized air within. The tire is expanded to a diameter just larger than the vehicle wheels so that the studs will engage the roadway to provide traction. The tire may be inflated manually from a pressurized air source and deflated manually. A pressure source and control valves may be provided to control the inflation and deflation of the tire remotely.

    摘要: Apparatus, methods and kits which, when installed or used, occlude or partially occlude a cervical canal, the internal opening of a cervical canal (cervical os), or a uterine side wall rupture location, such as to inhibit or prevent bacterial access and retard leakage of amniotic fluid resulting from PROM. The present apparatus can include an expandable support member of a biocompatible and non-toxic material. In some examples, the support member can include a top portion having a first diameter and a bottom portion having a second diameter less than the first diameter. In some examples, the support member can include an expandable stent of a suitable length and uniform diameter to be inserted in a non-dilated cervical canal or transabdominal access route. In various examples, the apparatus further includes a fluid-resistant fabric, polymer, substance or other material placed over at least the top portion of the support member.

    摘要: A process for producing a tire having an expandable chamber utilized for extending and retracting studs provided in the periphery of the tire. In one embodiment, a non-stick film is strategically positioned between the casing and the tread prior to curing the tread onto the casing. The interface at either side of the film forms the sides of an expandable chamber. The tread side of the chamber is inset and studs are affixed thereto. Expansion of the chamber extends the studs out of the inset and into engagement with a road surface. Alternative processes provide a channel in the tread and the expansion chamber formed in the channel.
