Abstract: The continuous monitoring of electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) is crucial for detecting the degree of inflammation in a patient in a hospital setting, especially in the intensive care unit. In particular, the heart rate variability is known to correlate with the degree of inflammation. When the inflammation accelerates, this can lead to septic shock of the patient and subsequently multi-organ failure. Therefore, there is a need for a device that monitors the degree of sepsis of the patient. The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for monitoring the EEG and the ECG, and a method combining information from the EEG and the ECG which together with features extracted from the EEG and the ECG are the inputs to a prediction model such as an adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system the output of which is an index of sepsis.

Abstract: Sensors are attached to a living being so as to generate corresponding sensor signals. A monitor is in communications with the sensors so as to derive physiological parameters responsive to the sensor signals. Predetermined limits are applied to the physiological parameters. At least one indicator responsive to the physiological parameters and the predetermined limits signal the onset of a sepsis condition in the living being.

Abstract: A non-invasive electronic patient monitor tracks one or more physiological parameters of a patient, such as intravascular volume index (IVI), extravascular volume index (EVI), total hemoglobin (SpHb), impedance, and/or weight. The patient monitor determines if one or more of the physiological parameters are within a predetermined range. The patient monitor activates an alarm if one or more of the physiological parameters are outside the predetermined range and indicates a patient can be experiencing edema and/or heart failure, or sepsis.

Abstract: A wearable electronic device includes a body, a housing component, a band operable to attach the body to a body part of a user, and a force sensor coupled to the housing component.
The force sensor is operable to produce a force signal based on a force exerted between the body part of the user and the housing component. A processing unit of the wearable electronic device receives the force signal from the force sensor and determines the force exerted on the housing component based thereon. The processing unit may use that force to determine a tightness of the band, determine health information for the user, adjust determined force exerted on a cover glass, and/or to perform various other actions.-

Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for a sepsis alert engine for sepsis detection. In one example, a computing device comprising a display screen displays a menu listing one or more electronic medical records (EMRs) of one or more patients, and additionally is configured to display a sepsis alert graphical user interface (GUI) accessible from the menu while the one or more EMR systems are in an un-launched state. The sepsis alert GUI displays a sepsis level element identifying a sepsis level for each patient displayed as well as a limited list of criteria that triggered the identified sepsis level. The limited list of criteria is obtained from the one or more EMRs and each criterion in the limited list is selectable to launch a pop-up UI with additional information relating to the identified sepsis level.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, systems, and implementations for inductive heating of a foreign metallic implant are disclosed. A foreign metallic implant may be heated via AMF pulses to ensure that the surface of the foreign metallic implant heats in a uniform manner. As the surface temperature of the foreign metallic implant rises, acoustic signatures may be detected by acoustic sensors that may indicate that tissue may be heating to an undesirable level approaching a boiling point. Once these acoustic signatures are detected, the AMF pulses may be shut off for a time period to allow the surface temperature of the implant to cool before applying additional AMF pulses. In this manner, the surface temperature of a foreign metallic implant may be uniformly heated to a temperature adequate to treat bacterial biofilm buildup on the surface of the foreign metallic implant without damaging surrounding tissue. The AMF pulse treatment can be combined with an antibacterial/antimicrobial treatment regimen to reduce the time and/or antibacterial dosage amount needed to remove the biofilm from the metallic implant.
