摘要: A process to make a shock absorber fluid having improved performance properties, the properties including an air release after 1 minute by DIN 51381 of less than 0.8 vol %, a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. less than 5 mm2/s and an aniline point greater than or equal to 95° C., or meeting the specifications for Kayaba 0304-050-0002 or VW TL 731 class A. The shock absorber fluid is made by blending a base oil having less than 10 wt % naphthenic carbon and a high viscosity index with low levels of (or no) viscosity index improver and pour point depressant.

In an embodiment, the power steering fluid comprises greater than 50 weight % base oil, viscosity index improver, and less than about 1.0 weight % pour point depressant.

摘要: A process for producing an API Group I base oil, comprising: blending a lower quality base oil that does not meet API Group I specifications with a Fischer-Tropsch derived distillate fraction having defined pour point, viscosity index and Oxidator B, and isolating an API Group I base oil that has improved defined properties. A process for producing an API Group I base oil, consisting essentially of: (a) selecting a lower quality base oil not meeting API Group I specifications, having defined saturates, viscosity index and Oxidator BN; and (b) blending the lower quality base oil with a Group II base oil and a Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil. A process for improving the lubricating properties of a lower quality base oil. Also, a process for operating a base oil plant.

摘要: The present invention relates to an extra light hydrocarbon liquid derived from highly paraffinic wax. This extra light hydrocarbon liquid is suitable for use as a lubricant additive diluent oil in oil soluble additive concentrates. This extra light hydrocarbon liquid derived from highly paraffinic wax has a viscosity of between about 1.0 and 3.5 cSt at 100° C. and a Noack volatility of less than 50 weight % and comprises greater than 3 weight % molecules with cycloparaffinic functionality and less than 0.30 weight percent aromatics. The extra light hydrocarbon liquid makes an excellent lubricant additive diluent oil because it has low volatility, low viscosity, good additive solubility, and excellent solubility in lubricant base oil stocks. The present invention also relates to finished lubricants comprising the oil soluble additive concentrates made with the extra light hydrocarbon liquid and finished lubricants comprising the oil soluble additive concentrates. The present invention further relates to processes for making these lubricant additive diluent oils, oil soluble additive concentrates, and finished lubricants.

摘要: A method for improving the oxidation stability of an ashless hydraulic fluid or an ashless paper machine oil, comprising: a. selecting a base oil having greater than 90 wt % saturates, less than 10 wt % aromatics, a base oil viscosity index greater than 120, less than 0.03 wt % sulfur, a sequential number of carbon atoms, greater than 35 wt % total molecules with cycloparaffinic functionality, and a ratio of molecules with monocycloparaffinic functionality to molecules with multicycloparaffinic functionality greater than 2.1; and b. replacing a portion of an original base oil in the ashless oil with the selected base oil to produce an improved ashless lubricating oil; wherein the improved ashless lubricating oil has a result in the rotary pressure vessel oxidation test that is at least 50 minutes greater than the result in the rotary pressure oxidation test of the ashless hydraulic fluid or ashless paper machine oil.
