摘要: A cryosurgery device for dispensing a liquid refrigerant from a container having a valve stem extending outwardly therefrom. The device includes an actuator adapted to seat on the valve stem of the container in order to depress the valve stem to release the refrigerant from the container. The actuator includes an inner passageway having opposed ends disposed therein, one of the ends of the passageway being in fluid communication with the valve stem. An applicator tube is mounted to the actuator at the other end of the inner passageway. A cap is disposed on the top of the container. The actuator is movably positioned on the cap and a shield is attached to the cap to completely receiving the applicator tube. Liquid refrigerant can only be dispensed when the actuator is positioned properly and the applicator tube is disposed within the shield means.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for producing activated, substantially monodisperse, phosphorescent particles and particles formed thereby. The method suspends substantially monodisperse, phosphor-precursor particles in a fluidizing gas and then introduces a reactive gas to contact the suspended phosphor-precursor particles. Heating the suspended phosphor-precursor particles to a reaction temperature then forms unactivated phosphorescent particles. In another embodiment, the phosphor-precursor particles may be heated to a reaction temperature where they decompose to form the unactivated phosphor particles. The unactivated phosphorescent particles suspended within the fluidizing gas are activated by heating the unactivated phosphorescent particles to an activation temperature forming activated, substantially monodisperse, phosphorescent particles.

摘要: A sample collection kit includes a sample collector, a polycarbonate container, and a preservative solution. The sample collector includes an absorbent pad with a collecting element that receives a sample of oral fluid. The absorbent pad also includes an interior portion that extends into a handle. The handle includes an upper casing and a lower casing. The collecting element can be treated with a surfactant to optimize recovery of analytes from the oral sample and/or their absorbance onto the absorbent pad. A polycarbonate container receives the absorbent pad or the sample collector and stores it for testing of analytes. A dextran sulfate preservative solution is included in the polycarbonate container that inhibits enzymatic activity on a collected sample.

摘要: This invention relates to field of screening and diagnosing adverse local tissue reaction (ALTR) in a subject who has received a joint replacement by measuring the level of a nucleic acid or protein biomarker that are elevated in patients suffering from ALTR, even those with no symptoms. The early diagnosis of the ALTR can lead to its treatment and thus, the prevention of implant failure caused by the ALTR. The elevated proteins and genes are also the basis for treatment for ALTR and provide targets for drug development and basic research.

摘要: A lateral flow test strip for the analysis of a sample featuring numerous capture zones arranged in an array such that each capture zone is substantially equidistant from the sample containing area. The sample does not pass through another capture zone to reach any one of the other capture zones. The capture zones are preferably arranged in a linear array perpendicular to the flow of the sample through the lateral flow test strip. The lateral flow test strip allows for an increased number of simultaneous analyses of numerous analytes from one sample to occur on one lateral flow test strip.
