Abstract: A transverse flux electric motor (10) includes an inner stator (15) and an outer rotor (12). The rotor (12) comprises a plurality of permanent magnets (70) in an alternating arrangement with a plurality of flux concentration strips (50). The flux concentration strips (50) contain grooves (60) on a surface (58) remote from the stator (15). The stator (15) may comprise a plurality of stator units (80), each comprising a stator yoke (82) positioned between a pair of stator cores (84). The stator cores (84) are substantially gear shaped and comprise a plurality of stator teeth (92). The stator teeth (92) of different stator cores (84) are circumferentially offset from each other. The stator yoke (82) may comprise a coiled metal strip wrapped around a central shaft (72) of the motor (10).

Abstract: A transverse flux motor (10) includes a housing (20), a stator (50), and a rotor (30) external to the stator (50) and installed onto the housing. The stator (50) includes a stator sub-assembly including at least one pair of stator core elements (52), each having multiple stator pole teeth (56) circumferentially offset from pole teeth of the other stator core element in the pair. The rotor (30) includes a rotor body (32) made of a single piece part or multiple rotor body laminas (36). The rotor body (32) includes multiple magnetic flux retention features (40) for positioning first magnets (34). Two adjacent magnetic flux retention features (48) define a second magnet retention feature (47) for positioning a second magnet (45) that form a substantially U-shape together with two neighboring first magnets with the same magnetic poles facing each other.

Abstract: An electromagnetic drive mechanism (10) comprises a rotor (50) configured to rotate within a stator (30). The rotor (50) and stator (30) have multiple poles (56, 36), wherein each pole comprises a radial inner portion (564, 362) and a radial outer portion (562, 364). The radial inner portions (564, 362) and radial outer portions (562, 364) of the rotor (50) and stator (30) have different heights, forming a step (566, 366) between the radial inner and outer portions of the rotor (50) and stator (30). This configuration allows for overlapping radial surfaces in addition to overlapping axial surfaces during operation of the drive mechanism (10), thereby increasing the total overlap area and thus the reluctance torque, and potentially improving response speed while allowing for a more compact device (10).
