    摘要: There is disclosed an adaptive de-interlacing method and apparatus based on a phase corrected field of an input interlaced picture signal, and a recording medium storing computer programs for executing the method. The method includes: generating a phase corrected kth field by compensating a phase of the kth field of the input interlaced picture signal by 1 line frequency; calculating a first motion vector between the phase corrected kth field and the (k−1)th field of the interlaced picture signal; calculating a second motion vector between the (k−1)th field and the (k+1)th field of the interlaced picture signal; and determining whether there is motion of the input picture based on the first and second motion vector values, and generating a kth progressive frame based on the result and the kth field. Thus, a serration phenomenon is minimized after de-interlacing by more exactly detecting the motion information of a corresponding inserted field.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display (LCD) and method of adjusting brightness for the LCD are provided. The LCD includes a light emitter including a plurality of luminescent bodies which are divided into a predetermined number of partial areas, a backlight driver connected to the light emitter to control the brightness of each of the partial areas of the light emitter, and a controller for calculating a representative value for adjusting the brightness of each of the partial areas of the light emitter in accordance with an input image signal and outputting the representative value as a brightness adjustment signal for adjusting the brightness of each of the partial areas to the backlight driver. Thus, the brightness of each of partial areas of a backlight can be adjusted in accordance with the input image signal to improve a contrast ratio. Also, a representative value to be used for adjusting the brightness of each of the partial areas can be lowered by a predetermined ratio to effectively reduce power needed for lighting the backlight. Also, light loss and light gain occurring between neighboring partial areas can be compensated to improve the contrast ratio, and image artifacts can be reduced.

The light source part is partitioned into a plurality of light source zones. A light source driving part supplies power to the light source part. A plurality of channel parts sense luminescence of the point light sources for each of the light source zones and output light-emission information of the point light sources based on the sensed luminescence. A controller compares the light-emission information output from the plurality of channel parts with a pre-set reference value. If a difference between the light-emission information and the reference value is out of a predetermined allowable range, the controller sequentially adjusts PWM control signals which are output to the light source driving part, for each of the light source zones.

The display apparatus includes a panel unit which displays an image signal, a backlight unit which provides a light to the panel unit to visualize the image signal, a luminance value regulator which calculates representative values to be applied for adjusting a brightness of a plurality of partial areas of the backlight unit corresponding to the input image signal, a contrast enhancer which compensates for a brightness of the image signal compromised by the representative value through a contrast enhancement, and a pixel value compensator which compensates for pixel values of the image signal compensated using the contrast enhancement. Accordingly, the contrast ratio of the entire image can be enhanced by compensating for the brightness loss of the image signal caused from the brightness adjustment of the luminous element, and the image quality can be more finely improved.
