Abstract: There is provided a method of assessing the reliability of a measurement of blood pressure of a subject, the method in a control unit of an apparatus comprising obtaining a first measurement of at least one physiological characteristic of the subject that is indicative of the level of pain and/or stress of the subject, wherein the first measurement is made prior to a measurement of blood pressure being made; obtaining the measurement of blood pressure of the subject; obtaining a second measurement of the at least one physiological characteristic of the subject, wherein the second measurement is made after the measurement of blood pressure is made and prior to a subsequent measurement of blood pressure being made; and determining if the measurement of blood pressure is reliable based on the first measurement and the second measurement, wherein the measurement of blood pressure is determined to be reliable if the first measurement and the second measurement indicate a low level of pain and/or stress. A corresponding apparatus that implements the method is also provided.

Abstract: Information regarding a patient's physiological signs is provided in real-time, in particular in conjunction with drug administration to the patient. A patient data input obtains patient data of a monitored patient. A drug identification input obtains drug administration data identifying a drug administered to the patient and the time of administration of the drug to the patient. A drug information input obtains drug information about the identified drug, including drug side effects and/or drug-drug interactions and/or drug-disease contraindications. A processing unit determines time-resolved monitoring information based on the obtained patient data, drug administration data and drug information. The monitoring information is dynamically adapted and one or more physiological signs of the patient that are most critical to monitor over time are indicated. An output interface outputs the monitoring information.

A functional ability unit is adapted to obtain a functional ability signal representative of a determined functional ability of the person. An assessment unit is adapted to determine an ability of the person to perform the identified task based on the task-specific complexity signal and the functional ability signal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for monitoring an eye of a subject, comprising: a transparent carrier for being in contact with the eye of the subject; and a photosensor facing the eye of the subject for receiving light reflected from the eye of the subject and for determining a light intensity of the received light, wherein the photosensor is arranged on the transparent carrier; and wherein the photosensor includes one of: a plurality of photodetectors arranged in the form of a two-dimensional array and spaced apart from one another for allowing incident light to pass between the photodetectors to enter the eye of the subject wherein the plurality of photodetectors is arranged in a plurality of rows of photodetectors or in a plurality of concentric circles substantially covering the iris and the pupil of the eye of the subject; and a single large area photodetector covering an iris and a pupil of the eye of the subject. The present invention further relates to a system and method for monitoring a pain level of a subject comprising a device as defined above.

It is described to provide (210) a spectral resolving unit with at least one broadband radiation. The at least one broadband radiation comprises a first broadband radiation acquired from a region of interest within a vascular structure. An occluding structure is suspected to be located within the region of interest and wherein the first broadband radiation is associated with the suspected occluding structure. At least one spectrally resolved data set is determined (220) on the basis of the at least one broadband radiation, wherein the at least one spectrally resolved data set comprises a first spectrally resolved data set determined on the basis of the first broadband radiation. A processing unit is provided (230) with the at least one spectrally resolved data set on the basis of the at least one broadband radiation. The processing unit determines (240) information relating to the suspected occluding structure, comprising utilisation of the first spectrally resolved data set.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining a state of tissue sealing during a tissue sealing process. According to the disclosed method, an optical probe beam is used to irradiate a tissue region. A signal indicative of optical scattering in the tissue region is generated from a portion of the optical probe beam that has passed through or been returned by the tissue region. The onset of tissue sealing is indicated by the successive occurrence in time of a turning point and a point of inflection in the optical scattering signal. An energy-based tissue sealing or tissue-cutting device for use in accordance with the method is also disclosed.
