    摘要: A silica glass crucible is disclosed comprising a barium-doped inner wall layer. The crucible is made by introducing into a rotating crucible mold bulk silica grain to form a bulky wall. After heating the interior of the mold to fuse the bulk silica grains, an inner silica grain, doped with barium, is introduced. The heat at least partially melts the inner silica grain, allowing it to fuse to the wall to form an inner layer. The inner layer of the crucible crystallizes when used in a CZ process, extending the operating life of the crucible.

    摘要: Silica crucibles containing an inner layer which is substantially pure and substantially bubble-free and methods for making such crucibles. The inner layer is also substantially stable against roughening and spot devitrification. The inner layer is formed by making a web structure which is then converted to a continuous layer, thereby minimizing or eliminating bubble formation. The inner layer is also formed using a gettering agent which getters alkaline and alkaline-earth elements while the inner layer is formed. The alkaline and alkaline-earth elements are gettered on an innermost portion of the inner layer which is later removed, leaving an inner layer with relatively few impurities. When used in a CZ-crystal growing process, the inner surface of the crucible remains smooth and substantially no bubbles grow in the inner layer.

    摘要: The invention provides a method and system for labeling items, wherein the labels contain digital information and can be read when desired. The coding of the labels is done by choosing specifically engineered nano-particles, micro-particles, or liquid material in the form of “ink.” The particles are designed to contain materials with distinguishable NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) or NQR (Nuclear quadrupole resonance) frequencies and are combined in sets to encode digital information. The NMR/NQR label particle sets are printed on the item to be labeled, or on a label substrate which is then attached to the item to be labeled. In one embodiment, the printed NMR/NQR label consists of an array of spots, each of which may encode one or more digital characters. These spots can be detected and the digital information in the label can be read using a suitable magnetic resonance detector.

    摘要: A battery-powered portable radio receiver and a method of operating the battery-powered radio receiver during Standby Mode in order to decrease battery-current drain is provided. In Standby Mode, a receive path of the radio receiver is activated during a data-detection time interval for the detection of data destined for selected receivers, and a preconditioning time interval for performing pre-conditioning functions with respect to the receiver before the data-detection time interval. The method includes: (a) activating the receive path at a predetermined time instant before the start of the data-detection time interval to perform the pro-conditioning functions with respect to the receiver, (b) detecting a predetermined characteristic of the received signal affected by each of the pre-conditioning functions; (c) comparing each of the predetermined characteristics with e threshold; (d) where the predetermined characteristics are within their respective thresholds, deactivating the receive path until the start of the data-detection time interval, and then reactivating the receive path fur the data-detection time interval; and (e) where the predetermined characteristics are outside their respective thresholds, continuing the pre-conditioning functions until the predetermined characteristics are within their respective thresholds, then deactivating the receive path until the start of the data-detection time interval, and then reactivating the receive path for the data-detection time interval.

The EFC encoder may be coupled to a punctured subset selector to select a punctured subset of the encoded data block for transmission across a communication link. The punctured subset selector may be coupled to a modulator to modulate the punctured subset of the encoded data block using a selectable modulation type selected by a modulation selector coupled to the modulator. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) logic may be coupled to the modulation selector to receive at least one of an acknowledgement (ACK) or a no-acknowledgement (NACK) that a previously-transmitted punctured subset of the encoded data block was successfully decoded at a receiving end of the communication link.
