In a single-crystal growth method disclosed herein, a melt is first prepared in a container having a cylindrical wall. The container is such that at least the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical wall is formed of a material which is not wettable to the melt. A seed is then immersed in the melt and a single crystal rod formed on the seed is pulled in such a manner as to be coaxial with the cylindrical wall. The distance between the single crystal rod and the inner peripheral surface is set to a prescribed value G, so that the melt adjacent to the inner peripheral surface is formed into a prescribed meniscus shape. The temperature distribution at the melt surface is controlled to maintain the meniscus shape between the single crystal rod and the inner peripheral surface at an equilibrium state to thereby control the diameter of the single crystal rod.

A network operator identifier is used to uniquely identify each network operator to support international roaming. The network operator identifier includes (1) a Mobile Country Code (MCC) that identifies the country in which a network operator belongs and (2) a Network Operator Code (NOC), which may be a Mobile Network Code (MNC), that distinguishes network operators within a given MCC. Each network operator is assigned a unique combination of MCC and NOC that distinctly identifies the network operator, and the network operator identifier can be stored in a single entry in a preferred roaming list. The base stations of each network operator broadcast the network operator identifier in signaling messages. A mobile station receives a signaling message from a base station, obtains the network operator identifier, searches its preferred roaming list for an entry with the network operator identifier, and determines whether or not the current CDMA network is accessible.

A terminal is provided with home system tag, group tags, and specific tags. The terminal displays the home system tag when obtaining service from the home system and a roaming system tag when obtaining service from a roaming system. The particular roaming system tag to be displayed is dependent on the roaming indicator value and the SID value for the roaming system. The system tags may be downloaded to the terminal via over-the-air signaling.
