摘要: A method and blood bag, whereby a substantial volume of concentrated whole blood can be quickly and easily recovered from the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit of a patient immediately following cardiac or thoracic vascular surgery. This is achieved in an operating room, by transferring most of the blood in the CPB circuit into a sterile bag located in the surgical field, removing the bag with blood from the surgical field, and outside the surgical field, but preferably in the operating room, hemo-concentrating the blood in the bag, while the bag is fluidly connected to the bypass system hardware. A novel blood bag (or hemo-bag) system is especially adapted for use with the method of the present invention. The new hemo-bag system comprises a closed, sterile bag of substantially transparent, bio-compatible material, defining upper and lower ends. An infusion port is located at the upper end of the bag. An outlet port, an inlet port, and an IV line are situated at the lower end of the bag. A baffle is preferably located inside the bag, for directing upward flow entering the bag through the inlet port, away from the outlet port. Each of the ports and line terminate in connector structure, and can be opened or closed by way of conventional clips and caps.

摘要: In an extracorporeal blood circuit system or a machine configurable in such a circuit, a bag blood reservoir has an infusion port at the upper end of the bag, an outlet port at the lower end of the bag, an inlet port at the lower end of the bag, and an IV port at the lower end of the bag. A split line is connected to the infusion port, having a first branch line connected to a source makeup fluid into the reservoir and a second branch line that evacuates from the reservoir. An air detector and a vent controller automatically configure a venting path in which the inlet lines to the pump and to the blood reservoir are open such that air rises to the upper end of the blood reservoir from which it can be vented through the infusion port into the air evacuation line.

摘要: The venous reservoir is omitted from an extracorporeal blood circuit system by substituting a blood reservoir in parallel with the arterial pump. The reservoir has an inlet connected to the outlet of the pump and an outlet connected to the inlet of the pump. At least three blood flow paths can be configured. A main path has the inlet and outlet of the reservoir blocked while pumped blood flows through the venous cannula, the oxygenator, and the arterial cannula. An accumulator path has the inlet to the oxygenator and the outlet of the reservoir blocked while blood flows through the venous cannula and the inlet to the reservoir. A discharge path has the inlet of the reservoir blocked while the outlet is open whereby blood from the reservoir flows into the oxygenator. In a fourth configuration, the ECC fluid can be recovered in the reservoir and hemoconcentrated for autologous transfusion.

摘要: The invention is directed to a blood bag system, comprising a closed, sterile bag of substantially transparent, bio-compatible material, defining upper and lower ends; an infusion port at the upper end of the bag; an outlet port at the lower end of the bag; an inlet port at the lower end of the bag; a hemo-concentrator having an inlet port and an outlet port; a pair of inlet tubes fluidly connected to the hemo-concentrator inlet port; and a pair of outlet tubes fluidly connected to the hemo-concentrator outlet port. One of the inlet tubes is fluidly connected to the outlet port of the bag, and one of the outlet tubes fluidly connected to the inlet port of the bag. The other of the inlet tubes and the other of the outlet tubes are temporarily sealed (e.g., clamped) to prevent flow therethrough. The bag, the one outlet tube, the hemo-concentrator, and the one inlet tube thus form a closed fluid circulation circuit by which a pump can recycle the blood through the hemo-concentrator. One aspect of the invention includes a hemo-concentrator system and a specially adapted tubing set, for easily and quickly converting the hemo-concentrator from conventional use to use in the blood recovery method. Other aspects of the invention are directed to the combination of tubing set with hemo-concentrator, and to the tubing set itself.
