    摘要: A low profile gastrointestinal tube feeding system having a securing device for securing a feeding set to a low profile gastrostomy tube thereof disposed inside the viscera of a patient's body so that inadvertent removal of the feeding set from the gastrostomy tube is prevented. The feeding set includes hollow tubing connected to a source of fluid at one end and a connection member at the other end for connection to the gastrostomy tube and establishing fluid flow communication with the patient. The low profile gastrostomy tube includes an external retention member having legs that seat and retain the external retention member against the patient's outer body and a tubular member that is disposed inside the stomach or other viscera of a patient. The connection member attaches to the external retention member and is secured thereto using a securing device. The securing device includes a top portion and a bottom portion which are adapted to simultaneously engage respective portions of the connection member and external retention member when the securing device is brought into sliding engagement thereto. The connection member is maintained in secure engagement with the external retention member through the securing device and neither part can be separated unless the securing device is first disengaged from either the connection member or external retention member. Thus, the securing device prevents inadvertent removal of the feeding set from the gastrostomy tube.

    摘要: The present invention provides for a dual port arrangement for a water seal chamber of a drainage device for channeling and restricting fluid flow through the water seal during normal operation of the device when the patient is breathing normally, while preventing the breach of the water seal during reverse flow conditions when the patient takes a sudden and deep inhalation. The dual port arrangement comprises a narrow side port and a low profile tunnel port defining an elongated conduit interposed between and in communication with both arms of the water seal chamber. The side port has a thin slot configuration that restricts fluid flow communication through the side port, and the back tunnel port defines a low profile, elongated conduit with openings that channel fluid flow between both arms of the water seal chamber. The elongated configuration of the conduit prevents a steep water gradient from falling below the upper portion of the conduit opening during reverse flow conditions.

    摘要: A safety apparatus is provided which includes a needle hub having an arm extending therefrom and an extensible frame connected to the needle hub. The extensible frame includes a proximal segment that is hingedly connected to a distal segment. The extensible frame is resiliently biased from a retracted position to an extended position, wherein the arm releasably engages the proximal segment to fix the extensible frame in a position between the retracted position and the extended position. In an alternate embodiment, the safety apparatus includes an extensible frame including a proximal segment which is hingedly connected to a distal segment. A resilient member is coupled to the proximal segment and the distal segment. The resilient member is configured to bias the extensible frame from a retracted position to an extended position. A method for infusing fluids to a subject is disclosed.

    摘要: A thoracentesis device for removing fluid from a cavity includes a hypersensitive dual spring indication mechanism for alerting the user of any contact to internal body organs. The thoracentesis device includes a handle and an outer needle fixedly attached to the handle. The outer needle forms a sharp distal end and a spring-loaded inner needle, including a blunt tip distal end, is slidably disposed inside the conduit of the outer needle. A first spring has a first spring force that urges the inner needle into a fully extended position and a second spring has a second spring force that acts on the inner needle in opposition of the first spring force. A first and second opposite colored indicators are arranged in contact with the springs so as to alert the user to any initial contact made by the thoracentesis device.
