摘要:
Briefly, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, an apparatus and method to store initialization and configuration information is provided. The method may include storing basic input/output system (BIOS) software in a polymer memory. The method may further include copying a first portion of the BIOS software from the polymer memory to a random access memory (RAM) buffer of a memory controller, wherein the RAM buffer has a storage capacity of at least about two kilobytes (KB).

A system and method to reduce the time for system initializations is disclosed. In accordance with the invention, data accessed during a system initialization is loaded into a non-volatile cache and is pinned to prevent eviction. By pinning data into the cache, the data required for system initialization is pre-loaded into the cache on a system reboot, thereby eliminating the need to access a disk.

Embodiments of the present disclosure describe devices, methods, computer-readable media and systems configurations for solid state drive management in power loss recovery. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

An apparatus, as well as systems, methods, and articles can operate to record the address of write operations to a memory cached by a non-volatile cache prior to executing an operating system cache driver. In an embodiment, a non-volatile cache may be implemented by creating a device option read only memory (ROM), or modifying the associated computer basic input-output system (BIOS) to trap software interrupts associated with disk and other media access requests. Associated addresses, such as logical block addresses, can be stored in a log for data that is modified. The resulting log can be stored in a non-volatile medium, including the cache itself. If the available log space is not large enough to record all write activity prior to loading operating system drivers, a flag may be set to indicate the overrun condition.

An optimized CD/DVD authoring method is disclosed. Either a pre-final version of a CD/DVD having a first block allocation or a disk image of the pre-final version of the CD/DVD with the first block allocation is first created. An alternate block allocation to the first block allocation that yields improved overall access time for the content of the CD/DVD is generated, if possible, based on the order a selected subset or the entire content of the CD/DVD is accessed. A final version of the CD/DVD is then generated using the alternate block allocation.

A mass storage device having a storage medium on which digital signals can be stored. The mass storage device is coupleable to a computer through a high-speed serial bus. The high-speed serial bus has a latency and a signal transmission rate sufficient to enable transmission of digital signals between the mass storage device and the computer without interim storage of the digital signals in a buffer inside the mass storage device. The computer has a processor capable of processing the digital signals and the digital signals may be transmitted between the mass storage device and the computer without processing of the digital signals by a processor in the mass storage device.

A method for detection of a sequential data stream which can be performed without host computer intervention is disclosed featuring examination of a data record and channel program during read operations for signals indicative that the data is not part of a sequential data stream, for example, embedded seek instructions. If a particular sought for record does not contain such indications, the successive record or records may then be staged to a faster access memory device such as a solid-state cache. The invention is described in a plug-compatible, software-transparent configuration.
