摘要: A piezoelectric/electrostrictive device is provided with a stationary portion, a thin-plate portion supported by the stationary portion, and piezoelectric/electrostrictive element formed by alternately laminating a plurality of electrodes and a plurality of piezoelectric/electrostrictive layers. The piezoelectric/electrostrictive device is produced by cutting a thin-plate body that composes the thin-plate portion afterward and a laminated body comprising the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layers and thereafter applying prescribed specific processing (for example, heat treatment) to the cut plane (the lateral end surfaces). By so doing, the ratio of the actual surface area of the lateral end surface of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element to the area of the lateral end surface of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element in the orthographic projection is four or less, and the deposition of moisture on the lateral end surfaces is suppressed to the extent of not substantially generating electric leakage or ion migration.

摘要: A wire sawing apparatus includes a plurality of cutting wires arranged in parallel with one another and caused to travel in their axial directions; a table on which a workpiece is placed and held; a moving device for vertically moving the table; and a machining-liquid feed pipe. While a machining liquid is falling from a machining-liquid feed opening of the machining-liquid feed pipe, the moving device causes the workpiece to be pressed against the traveling cutting wires, thereby cutting the workpiece. The wire sawing apparatus further includes a plurality of strip members attached to and hanging from the machining-liquid feed pipe. The strip members control the geometry of the machining liquid falling from the machining-liquid feed pipe such that the machining liquid falls substantially vertically without concentrating toward the center.

摘要: A large number of display components are arranged and fixed, for example, in a matrix configuration on a first principal surface of a large optical guide plate to construct a main display device body. A substance having a light-transmitting property adjusted for its refractive index is allowed to intervene at least between the large optical guide plate and the display components. The refractive index of the substance is preferably similar to the refractive index of the large optical guide plate as closely as possible. As for the light-transmitting property of the substrate, it is preferable that the transmittance is not less than 50% for the perpendicular incident light at the wavelength in the visible light region, and it is more preferable that the transmittance is not less than 70%, in order to successfully introduce the light into the display component and suppress the electric power consumption.
