A meta-stable photoprotective composition, a product including the meta-stable composition, and a method of protecting a keratinous substrate from UV radiation by applying the product are provided. The meta-stable photoprotective composition includes at least one water-in-oil emulsifier having a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of less than 6, at least one non-ionic oil-in-water emulsifier having an HLB of greater than 9, at least one ionic surfactant, and at least one sunscreen active ingredient. The weight ratio of the at least one non-ionic oil-in-water emulsifier to the at least one water-in-oil emulsifier is about 0.2 to about 2.0. The meta-stable composition converts from an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion to a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion upon rubbing.

A stable sprayable cosmetic composition that includes at least one mineral UV filter; at least one oil phase rheology modifier; and water; wherein the cosmetic composition is a water-in-oil composition and wherein the viscosity at shear rate of about 1000 (1/s) is lower than about 110 mPa·s. The cosmetic composition can be sprayed without requiring to be mixed with propellant.

A sunscreen composition in the form of a water-in-oil emulsion comprising: a) a water phase of about 20% to 60% by weight relative to the total weight of the sunscreen composition; b) one or more mineral UV filtering agents; c) one or more oil thickening agents selected from poly C10-30 alkyl acrylate, hydrogenated jojoba oil and its derivatives and mixtures thereof; wherein the total amount of oil thickening agents is about 0.5% to about 4% by weight relative to the total weight of the sunscreen composition; wherein when hydrogenated jojoba oil is present, the amount of hydrogenated jojoba oil is no more than 1.5 times the amount of poly C10-30 alkyl acrylate; wherein the composition has a viscosity of about 0.1 Pa·s to about 5 Pa·s at 25° C. at 10 rad/s; and wherein the inflection point of the largest viscosity transition at 10 rad/s is between 30° C. to 40° C.

A sunscreen composition is an oil-in-water emulsion of aqueous and oil phases and includes at least one lipophilic acrylate-based oil thickener, at least one mineral UV filter, and at least one nonionic surfactant that is a polyethylene glycol ethers of fatty acids or polyethylene glycol esters of fatty acids, or a combination thereof. The sunscreen composition may also include one or a combination of ingredients selected from the group consisting of solvents, SPF boosters, humectants, skin care actives, oils, waxes, thickeners, preservatives, pH adjusters, chelating agents, viscosity adjusters, cooling agents, fillers, fragrances, dyes, pigments, and combinations thereof. The sunscreen composition has an SPF in a range from about 30 to about 55 and exhibits phase stability and processibility.

The composition includes an oil in water or water in oil emulsion, wherein the emulsion includes at least one photostabilizer having anti-oxidant properties, at least one SPF booster, and at least one UV-A filter and at least one UV-B filter. The UV-A/UV-B sunscreen composition is provided in which the composition is essentially free of oxybenzone.

The present invention relates to a sunscreen composition comprising: a. an aqueous phase; b. an oil phase comprising at least one cosmetically acceptable oil; c. at least one sunscreen active; and d. up to about 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of an emulsifier system comprising; i. at least one ionic surfactant; ii. at least one nonionic surfactant having an HLB of greater than or equal to about 14; and iii. at least one nonionic surfactant having an HLB of less than or equal to about 10; wherein the composition is an oil-in-water emulsion containing oil droplets having an average particle size of from about 100 to 150 nm, is alcohol-free, and appears semi-transparent to transparent upon application onto an end-user's skin.
