Abstract: A superabsorbent polymer composition includes superabsorbent polymer particles, having a crosslinked polymer of water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomers including acid groups, of which at least a part are neutralized; and a particulate antimicrobial agent having a quaternary ammonium salt of a silane-based compound. The superabsorbent polymer composition exhibits improved antimicrobial and deodorizing properties without deterioration of the superabsorbent polymer properties such as centrifugal retention capacity.

The preparation method of superabsorbent polymer comprises the steps of: forming base polymer powder using hydogel polymer comprising crosslinked polymer, and then, surface crosslinking the base polymer powder using a surface crosslinking solution comprising a surface crosslinking agent and cuprous oxide, wherein the cuprous oxide is included in the content of 0.001 to 2.5 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the base polymer powder.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing a superabsorbent polymer, including a) drying and pulverizing a hydrogel polymer, and then classifying into a first fine powder having a particle size of less than 150 μm and a base polymer having a particle size of 150 to 850 μm; b) mixing a portion of the first fine powder, water and an additive, thus preparing a first fine-powder regranulate; c) passing the first fine-powder regranulate through a chopper and then performing drying and pulverizing; and d) classifying the pulverized first fine-powder regranulate into a superabsorbent polymer having a particle size of 150 to 850 μm and a second fine powder having a particle size of less than 150 μm, thus yielding the superabsorbent polymer.
