    摘要: The present invention provides a bone fastener assembly useful in constructs for stabilizing bones of a patient. In one aspect of the invention, a bone fastener assembly includes a connecting member, a fastener seat, and a bone fastener. The fastener seat and fastener are receivable in the connecting member and the fastener seat is movable from a first position to a second position to retain the fastener in the connecting member. In another aspect of the invention, a bone fastener assembly includes a rod holder, a fastener seat mounted to the rod holder for rotation about the rod holder axis; and a bone, fastener. The bone fastener is generally “T”-shaped and engages the fastener seat in pivoting relationship such that the bone fastener is able to pivot to vary the angle between the bone fastener and the fastener seat.

    摘要: The present invention provides a bone fastener assembly useful in constructs for stabilizing bones of a patient. In one aspect of the invention, a bone fastener assembly includes a connecting member, a fastener seat, and a bone fastener.     摘要: A method for locating, measuring and evaluating the enlargement of a foramen are provided. An instrument has a handle, an angled region, and a tip to be inserted into the foramen. An instrument can be pressed onto the foramen to determine its location and whether the empty space within the foramen is large enough for the maximum width of the tip to be inserted. If the tip cannot insert, the foramen can be cut to enlarge it enough for the tip to insert. A kit of several instruments or a single instrument with tips of different maximum widths are provided for determining the amount of empty space within the foramen through the course of the enlargement.

The blades project in approximately the same direction, and each blade is connected to a handle linearly or at an angle The handles are coupled together. In one embodiment, the distance between the blades is changeable so that a field of view defined as the viewable area between the blades can be increased or decreased. In another embodiment, the blades include texture, such as ribs, holes or teeth to grip onto surrounding muscle fiber. In yet another embodiment, a stabilizing arm attaches to a stabilizing object, such as a table or heavy or immovable object, and to one of the handles to stabilize the speculum system.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for aligning and fixing vertebral bodies is provided. The low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly of the current invention comprises a hemispherical headed pedicle screw disposed within a slotted coupling unit designed to allow angular adjustment of the pedicle screw up to 90° and which may be securely locked into position via a single internal locking nut once a standard alignment rod has been inserted into the slotted coupling unit. The low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly enabling the angular adjustment of the fixation system hardware after final placement and insertion of the pedicle screw into the vertebral body. A system and method for aligning and fixing vertebral bodies using the low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly of the invention is also provided.

    摘要: A surgical rongeur for cutting bone or tissue is provided. The rongeur has an elongated track member, and a generally hollow cutting slide defining an inner cavity slidably received within the track member. The distal end of the cutting slide terminates in a sharp cutting edge and an opening. The distal end of the track member terminates in a foot plate. The cutting slide is longitudinally movable relative to the track member from a first open position to a second closed position. In the first open position, there is an opening between the sharp cutting edge and the foot plate, in which opening the bone to be cut is placed. In the second closed position the sharp cutting edge contacts the foot plate, cuts the bone and pushes the bone chip through the opening into the inner cavity of the cutting slide, where multiple bone chips may be stored.

    摘要: An improved method for manufacturing medical implants, and particularly spinal implants, utilizing a metal injection moulding technique (MIM) is provided. The invention is generally directed to the manufacture of implants for complete insertion within the body of a patient. A special set of mechanical, physiological and legal requirements are associated with such medical implants. For example, in contrast with dental implants, such medical implants are not readily observable or removable meaning that they must be significantly more physically resilient. In addition, physiologically, such medical implants must be capable of full integration with the body. Finally, regulatory requirements provide for significantly stricter controls over such fully implanted medical devices.
