Abstract: Systems and methods for real-time transmission of data streams are disclosed. A controller receives data representing selected stream parameters from a browser residing on a computing device. The controller transmits the received data to a video transmitting device. A transcoder receives a first data stream generated according to the selected stream parameters from the video transmitting device. The transcoder generates a second data stream from the first data stream, the second data stream formatted for browser display; and then transmits the second data stream to the browser. A user may remotely control the video transmitting device using the browser. A user may view data streams from multiple video transmitting devices using the browser.

Abstract: A method for optimization of video bitrate of a given content, the method comprising the steps of: receiving (401) of a background data stream (102), having the lowest bitrate within a set of available streams for the given content and being created by compressing a complete source content (100) having the highest bitrate; starting reception (402) of a foreground data stream (101) wherein the video content of said foreground data stream (101) covers only a part of the complete source content (100) and has a higher bitrate than said lowest bitrate; verifying (403) whether it is possible to receive and present the foreground data stream (101) within a predefined threshold delay; presenting (404) a blended foreground data stream (101) on top of the background data stream (102).

The architectures employ channel bonding to deliver more bandwidth than any single communication channel can carry. In some implementations, the communication architectures distribute data streams to bonded channels that are clocked independently. A system is provided for synchronizing the bonded channels.

Abstract: A Multicast Adaptive Bitrate (MABR) Bandwidth Control Agent (BCA) configured to manage bandwidth of a plurality of MABR data streams in an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) over Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) system, wherein a bandwidth bottleneck exists on either an inbound, IP-network side of a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) or on an outbound, DOCSIS/RF-network side of the CMTS. The MABR BCA configures multiple virtual pipes on the inbound, IP-network side of the CMTS when the bottleneck is on the outbound, DOCSIS/RF-network side of the CMTS. One virtual pipe is configured for each service group to manage the bandwidth per service group for output RF ports on the CMTS. When the bottleneck is on the inbound, IP-network side of the CMTS, the MABR BCA configures one virtual pipe on the inbound, IP-network side to manage the bandwidth for input Ethernet ports on the CMTS.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for managing the encoding of a plurality of video streams, each of the plurality of video streams encoded by an associated one of a plurality of encoders, each of the plurality of encoders being a member of one of a plurality of encoder pools. Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein relating to adaptive video streaming. Time-to-offset mapping associated with a set of video blocks can be broken up into chunks. A client can download a first set of seek index chunks and use the first set of seek index chunks to select a stream. Seek index chunks within remaining sets of seek index chunks can be ranked for relevance based on client capabilities. A subset of remaining sets of seeks index chunks can be downloaded based on the rankings and client capabilities during streaming. Chunked time-to-offset mapping can facilitate faster startup when playing streamed video.

Abstract: An exemplary method includes a media content delivery system transmitting a transport stream containing an advertisement channel and a program channel, the program channel carrying a media program stream at a first bit rate, detecting an upcoming advertisement break within the media program stream, inserting, in response to the detecting of the upcoming advertisement break, an advertisement content stream having a second bit rate that is lower than the first bit rate into the program channel to temporally coincide with the advertisement break to free bandwidth in the transport stream during the advertisement break, and inserting an additional advertisement content stream in the advertisement channel, the additional advertisement content stream temporally coinciding with the advertisement break and utilizing at least a portion of the freed bandwidth in the transport stream. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for utilizing information (e.g., metadata) relating to content in a multimedia distribution network. In one embodiment, the network comprises a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) cable network, and the information comprises metadata relating to the bitrate profile of deterministic content such as stored video. Content sources, or the network operator themselves, generate the metadata which may then be used by the operator to adjust or optimize the operation of the network; e.g., more efficiently allocate the program to a multiplex. Network apparatus adapted to implement the metadata functionality and related business methods are also disclosed.
