Abstract: A surgical system includes a joint distractor configured to apply a distraction force to a first bone to distract a joint, a tracking system configured to track relative poses of the joint distractor and the first bone of the joint in contact with the joint distractor, and a computing system. The computing system is programmed to receive information indicating the relative poses of the joint distractor rand the first bone of the joint, determine, using the relative poses of the joint distractor and the first bone of the joint, a characteristic of the distraction force, and cause, using the characteristic of the distraction force, an adjustment of the distraction force.

Abstract: A system for intra-operatively registering a pelvis comprising an acetabulum with a computer model of the pelvis in a coordinate system. The system may include: a) a surgical navigation system including a tracking device; and b) at least one computing device in communication with the surgical navigation system. The at least one computing device: i) receiving first data points from first intra-operatively collected points on an articular surface of the acetabulum, the first data points collected with the tracking device; ii) receiving a second data point from a second intra-operatively collected point on the pelvis, the second data point collected with the tracking device, the second data point corresponding in location to a second virtual data point on the computer model; and iii) determining an intra-operative center of rotation of the femur relative to the pelvis from the first data points.

Abstract: A registration system including a bone pin guide and a bone pin clamp. The bone pin guide may include a guide body, a first guide including a first guide through-hole having a first longitudinal axis, and a second guide including a second guide through-hole having a second longitudinal axis. The bone pin guide may guide first and second bone pins into a bone via the first and second guides. The bone pin clamp may include a clamp body, first, second, and third clamp through-holes extending through the clamp body, a plurality of registration indents defined on the clamp body, and a clamping mechanism including at least one adjustable fastener. The bone pin clamp may receive the first and second bone pins in the first and third clamp through-holes and guide a third bone pin into the bone via the second clamp through-hole.

Abstract: A method for assessing a joint includes inserting a joint distraction lever into a space between a first bone and a second bone of the joint, distracting the joint with the joint distraction lever, determining, using a measurement device of the joint distraction lever, a distraction force applied by the joint distraction lever as the joint distraction lever is used to distract the joint, determining whether the distraction force matches a predetermined amount of the distraction force, and in response to determining that the distraction force matches the predetermined amount of the distraction force, capturing first poses of the first bone and the second bone.

Abstract: A joint distraction lever for measuring a distraction force is disclosed. The joint distraction lever includes a lever body having a handle portion and a working portion. The lever body has a fulcrum extending from a bottom surface of the working portion of the lever body and a distal tip, wherein the distal tip is raised above a top surface of the working portion of the lever body. The joint distraction lever is configured to measure a distraction force applied at the distal tip during a distraction procedure when a torque is applied by an external force applied on the handle portion of the lever body. The joint distraction lever further includes an indicator configured to provide feedback related to the distraction force applied at the distal tip, as measured by the joint distraction lever.

Abstract: Systems and methods related to an orthopedic tensor for a knee joint. The tensor is motorized and operates in a force control mode and a displacement control mode. A control system controls the tensor in the force control mode to apply forces to the knee joint until a predetermined force is reached. The control system captures a plurality of force-displacement data pairs from the tensor as a result of the forces applied by the tensor in the force control mode. Control of the tensor is switched from the force control mode to the displacement control mode to perform an extension test whereby a displacement of the tensor is progressively decreased according to displacements from the plurality of force-displacement data pairs until the knee joint can reach an acceptable full extension pose during, or after completion of, the extension test.
