Abstract: A TUBULAR MEMBER ADAPTED TO EXTEND ACROSS THE FRONT OF A BREATHING MASK IS PROVIDED IN ITS FRONT AND BACK WITH CENTRAL OPENINGS. THE BACK OPENING IS FORMED FOR CONNECTION TO THE INLET OF THE MASK, BUT A SPEAKING DIAPHRAGM IS MOUNTED IN THE FRONT OPENING. AN EXHALATION TUBE, THE FRONT END OF WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE TUBULAR MEMBER AROUND THE FRONT OPENING, EXTENDS THROUGH THE BACK OPENING FOR CONNECTION TO THE OUTLET OF A NOSE CUP IN THE MASK. INHALATION AND EXHALATION VALVES ARE MOUNTED IN OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE TUBULAR MEMBER, AND THE PORTION OF THE EXHALATION TUBE INSIDE THAT MEMBER COMMUNICATES ONLY WITH THE EXHALATION VALVE. INHALATION IS THROUGH THE SPACE BETWEEN THE EXHALATION TUBE AND THE TUBULAR MEMBER, WHILE EXHALATION IS THROUGH THE EXHALATION TUBE.

Abstract: A single strip of flexible and impervious material is folded lengthwise upon itself to form a double-thickness member, which is provided midway between its ends with a recess extending inwardly from one edge. The edges of the strip and substantially all of the area between the recess and the other edge of said member are sealed together so that two longitudinally spaced breathing bags are formed that are integrally connected at their inner ends by a band adapted to extend around the back of the neck to suspend the bags over the chest. Each bag has an opening therein near its outer or lower end.

Abstract: A case has a back and a cover provided with sidewalls surrounded by outwardly extending flanges at their free edges for engaging a flexible sealing gasket between the flanges. Surrounding the gasket is a clamping wire that is bent to form spaced loops extending inwardly over the case flanges and pressing them toward each other to clamp the gasket between them. Connected to one end of the wire is means for pulling it outwardly away from the case so that the cover can be removed.

Abstract: A receptacle is open at its bottom in order to receive an oxygen producing canister. A bail is disposed below the receptacle and has end portions extending upwardly along its opposite sides. The ends of the bail are pivotally connected to the receptacle to permit the bail to be swung backward out of the way of a canister that is being inserted up into or removed from the receptacle and to permit the bail to then be swung forward beneath a canister to support it in a standby position. There are means for guiding the ends of the bail upwardly along the sides of the receptacle. A handle straddles the receptacle and has a front portion extending across its lower part, the ends of the handle being pivoted to the receptacle above the bail. Links are pivotally connected to the handle and to the bail for lifting the bail when the handle is swung upwardly in order to raise a canister resting on the bail to operating position.

Abstract: In emergency breathing apparatus a case has a back section and a removable front cover section that are normally held together. Inside the case an air regenerating canister is secured to the back section and has a port in one end, to which a flexible breathing hose is connected. The opposite end of the canister is provided with an opening in each side, each of which is connected with an opening in one end of a breathing bag extending along that side of the canister. The hose and bags normally are folded within the case. The other ends of the bags are connected by means formed to extend around the back of the neck of a user of the apparatus to suspend the bags over his chest when they are removed from the case, with the canister between the bags.

Abstract: A breathing tube has a pair of circumferentially spaced parallel rib-receiving grooves in each end, with the grooves in one end a different distance apart than those in the other end. A valve body is provided in the form of a cup with a base surrounded by a sidewall adapted to fit in either end of the tube. The base has an opening through it surrounded at each end by a valve seat. A valve closure can be secured to the base for engagement with either seat. The outer surface of the cup sidewall has three parallel ribs parallel to the cup axis and spaced different distances apart. One rib is removable to permit the cup to be inserted in one end of the tube, and another rib is removable to permit the cup to be inserted in the other end of the tube.
