摘要: The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with a tri-level nodal system in which a narrowband node (e.g., a telecommunications node) may provide switching intelligence to the switching fabric of multiple broadband nodes (e.g., media gateways). The switching intelligence is provided via an intermediate node (e.g., mediation logic) that emulates a switch interface for the narrowband node and translates circuit-based addresses/routing instructions to packet-based addresses/routing instructions. This translation equates to a mapping of address(es) in a first address space to address(es) in a second address space in order to utilize the address(es) of the second address space for propagating communications on a broadband transport mechanism.

摘要: The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with a tri-level nodal communications architecture including a call control node having both switching intelligence and narrowband switching fabric, a plurality of connection control nodes having broadband switching fabric and an intermediate node for interworking between the call control node and the plurality of connection control nodes. The intermediate node includes a database providing an indication of which format(s) of multiple formats a given connection control node uses. When an incoming communication arrives to/from a specific connection control node, the database is consulted to ascertain the corresponding particular format(s) used by that specific connection control node. Accordingly, the incoming communication may be translated responsive to the ascertained particular format(s).

摘要: The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with an intermediate signaling protocol that supports narrowband inter-domain bearer independent call control (BICC) signaling over a broadband network. For each setup request carried by the BICC signaling protocol, a seize device message is forwarded from a narrowband call control node to an intermediate entity responsible for converting the seize device message into a broadband endpoint request message. The interworking entity obtains broadband endpoint information from a selected broadband endpoint and creates a dynamic device representing the selected broadband endpoint. The dynamic device is used in the establishment of inter-domain switch connections.

摘要: The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with a tri-level nodal communications architecture including multiple call control nodes, multiple connection control nodes and one or more intermediates node for interworking between the call control nodes and connection control nodes, in which the intermediate node(s) are controlled by all of the call control nodes. In certain embodiment(s), the identity of the call control node is transmitted to the intermediate node with each message to differentiate between the multiple call control nodes. In addition, each resource (e.g., port) managed by the intermediate node has a call control node identity associated therewith. In further embodiments, a logical port is used to support connections between call control nodes sharing the same intermediate node. The logical port represents a logical E1 path between the two call control nodes.

摘要: A pair of home location registers (HLRs) are associated with each other by assigning two capability codes. A first capability code is utilized to provide system support by one of the HLRs whenever the other HLR fails. The second capability code is utilized to constantly update each other's database with the latest subscriber information. Whenever a particular HLR fails, the associated Signal Transfer Points (STPs) reroutes the incoming signals intended for that failed HLR to its mate HLR. The mate HLR compares the received signals' destination point code with its first capability code to determine whether it is allowed to process this signal. If there is a match, the mate HLR automatically and transparently processes the received signal without service interruption or delay. Whenever one of the HLRs receives a new subscriber data, the same data are communicated to the other HLR by using its second capability code as the destination address.

摘要: The combination of a narrowband application that provides a narrowband resource with broadband transport is enabled with a temporary connection across the broadband network between the narrowband resource device in a legacy switch and a Media Gateway within the broadband network. The Media Gateway has an established call connection to a called subscriber for the call. While providing the resource, the call connection for the call in the Media Gateway is broken, and the temporary connection is used.

摘要: Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) parameters within a signal generated within a first SS7 telecommunications network are converted into values and formats acceptable by a second SS7 telecommunications network by a converter residing within a gateway Signal Transfer Point (STP). Such a converter enables signals containing application layer data to be transported across two different SS7 telecommunications networks that are otherwise incompatible.
