    摘要: A hand-held laser welding wand includes a reflection shield that reflects laser light that is reflected off a work piece surface away from the hand of a user of the hand-held laser welding wand. The shield also reflects the thermal radiation transmitted from the work piece toward the wand during the weld process. This will help guard against a user of the wand absorbing laser light that may be reflected off the work piece, as well as significantly reduce any heat that might be transferred to the wand as a result of the reflected laser light.

    摘要: A hand-held laser welding wand includes one or more removable filler media delivery extension tips. The wand is dimensioned to be grasped with a single hand, thus filler media of various types and forms may be supplied to the weld area on a workpiece using various types of delivery systems and methods, including fully automated, semi-automated, or manually. The filler media may be wholly or partially delivered via the filler media delivery passages. One or more of the extension tips may be inserted into the filler media delivery passages to efficiently, precisely, and robustly supply filler media of various types and forms to the workpiece weld area.

    摘要: A heating apparatus is provided for use during a welding operation on a component. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a die having a cavity having at least a portion shaped to complement a first portion of the component and an opening providing a space through which a second portion of the component extends. A primary heating element is embedded in the die and generates heat upon being energized. A die temperature sensor is embedded in the die proximate the primary heating element and senses primary heating element temperature and supplies a temperature signal representative thereof. A component temperature sensor is embedded in the die, and senses a temperature of the component in the cavity and supplies a temperature signal representative thereof. A controller couples to receive the temperature signals and is operable, in response thereto, to selectively energize and de-energize the primary heating element.

    摘要: Methods are provided for repairing a worn surface of a steel die-cast die. The method includes heating an amorphous material to a predetermined temperature with a laser beam and allowing the melted amorphous material to solidify to thereby form an amorphous layer over the worn surface. These processes are useful for eliminating or minimizing cracking and/or part distortion and minimize heat-affected zone during welding. In addition, the formation of an amorphous layer over the worn surface allows the repaired die-cast die to better withstand typical operating environments than previous repair materials. These methods combine low heat input welding with amorphous alloys to effectively repair die-cast dies.
