Toughenable polymer compositions cross-linkable thermally or by the effect of U.V. radiation are composed of:1) A polyphenylene ether (PPE) deriving from the (co)polymerization of one or more substituted phenols by oxidative coupling;2) At least one mono-unsaturated monomer compound able to (co)polymerize in the presence of radical initiators;3) Optionally, at least one polyunsaturated monomer compound able to (co)polymerize in the presence of radical initiators;4) At least one radical polymerization initiator;5) Possibly at least one (co)polymer with elastomeric characteristics;6) Usual additives, stabilizers, accelerators and flame retardant agents.Finished articles essentially composed of an intimately copenetrated polymer blend are obtained by thermal treatment or U.V. radiation of these compositions contained in suitable moulds either along or in combination with other reinforcement materials.

Multilayer material, essentially without adhesives between the various layers, particularly with two or three layers, consisting of at least one layer of aliphatic polyamide and at least one layer, alternating with the polyamidic layer, of vulcanized acrylic rubber, the above materials being characterized by a peeling strength (between the polyamidic layer and the vulcanized acrylic rubber layer) of more than 5 daN/cm.The process for the preparation of the above material is also described.

Polymeric compositions basically consisting of polyamides (nylon) and acrylic rubber, are characterized by their high shock-resistance and modulus, together with high thermal characteristics. They are used in the production of moulded products, which can be used in fields which require high thermal characteristics and high modulus and at the same time a good surface appearance and excellent anti-shock properties.

High transparency polymeric composition essentially consisting of: (1) from 30 to 95% of polystyrene; (2) from 70% to 5% of a composition of vinylarene-conjugated diene block copolymers; the percentage sum of (1) and (2) being equal to 100; the composition (2) consisting of: (2a) from 30 to 60% by weight of copolymers with a linear structure (2b) from 70% to 40% by weight of copolymers with a branched structure; the weight average molecular weight of the above composition (2) ranging from 30,000 to 400,000, preferably from 50,000 to 200,000.
