摘要： A method attaches a center conductor to one or both of a load end conductor and a line end conductor. The center conductor has two cylindrical projections. The load end conductor and the line end conductor both have a non-circular opening, such as a square opening. One of the cylindrical projections of the center conductor is passed through the non-circular opening of the load end conductor. The cylindrical projection of the center conductor is deformed, in order to attach the center conductor and the load end conductor together. The other of the cylindrical projections of the center conductor is passed through the non-circular opening of the line end conductor. The load and line end conductors are aligned and the other cylindrical projection of the center conductor is deformed, in order to attach the center conductor and the line end conductor together.

摘要： An operating mechanism for an enclosure-mounted circuit breaker includes a slider for engaging the circuit breaker handle; a shaft-driven pivot for moving the slider between the handle on, off and reset positions; a holder for holding the slider in its reset position; a base plate for supporting the pivot and the slider; and a door-mounted rotary handle for rotating the shaft and operating the pivot. The rotary handle may engage the shaft in the on and off positions, and may be detached from the shaft in the reset position. The pivot may include a first pivot arm having a first cam surface for holding the slider in its reset position. A second cam surface on a second pivot arm may engage a first slider surface from off to on; a second slider surface from on to off, from off toward reset, and to resist reset to off; and an oblique slider surface when adjacent reset. The second cam surface may disengage the oblique surface at reset. Alternatively, the slider may include a notch and the base plate may include a latch for engaging the notch. The pivot may include a single pivot arm having a cam surface which engages a slider surface from off to on; an oblique slider surface from on to off, and from off to reset in order to engage the notch and the latch; and another oblique surface to disengage the notch and the latch from reset to off. The slider may include an oblique shoulder for moving the handle from on to off and from off to reset, for resisting the handle force from reset to off, and for using the handle force to engage the notch and the latch in the reset position in order to substantially decouple the handle force from the rotary handle.

摘要： A locking attachment is for a circuit breaker. The circuit breaker includes a housing enclosing separable contacts and an operating mechanism, an elongated operating member with a handle that operates to open and close the separable contacts, and an opening in the housing through which the elongated operating member protrudes. The opening has first and second ends corresponding to “on” and “off” circuit breaker positions, respectively. The locking attachment includes a locking member having a first end having a compressive segment with opposed portions for compressively capturing the operating member. The second end of the locking member is structured to engage the housing of the circuit breaker at one of the first and second ends of the opening in the housing, thereby locking the circuit breaker in either the “on” or “off” position.

摘要： The helical contact compression springs of a circuit breaker are preassembled in a contact clip for easier assembly of the circuit breaker. The bottom wall of an elongated trough formed by the clip is pierced by holes forming cylindrical protrusions extending into the trough. The clip is placed over the springs supported in a row in a fixture. A die head presses on the spring clip to compress all the springs and then simultaneously insert punches into the holes in the clip to expand the protrusions and secure the springs to the clip. The fixture includes a slide mounted on guides for movement between a loading position and an operating position under the die head. A support block is pivoted on the slide to present one of two sets of spring recesses for circuit breakers having different current ratings with the slide in the loading position.

摘要： A circuit breaker includes a housing; separable contacts moveable between closed and open positions; an operating mechanism, for moving the separable contacts between the closed and open positions, having a first latched position and a second unlatched position corresponding to the open position of the separable contacts, and including a pair of cradles pivotally supported about a pivot axis within the housing to pivot in a first pivotal direction to the first position of the operating mechanism and a second pivotal direction to the second position of the operating mechanism; a handle mechanism for moving the cradles in the first pivotal direction; a latch mechanism for latching the operating mechanism in the first position thereof and for releasing the operating mechanism to the second position thereof, including a latch plate pivotally supported within the housing having two opposing elongated openings, a roller pin cross member generally parallel to the cradle pivot axis supported by the latch plate at each of the openings, and a spring mechanism for biasing the cross member with respect to the cradles; and a trip mechanism cooperating with the latch mechanism for releasing the operating mechanism to the second position thereof. An arcuate reset surface of the cradles independently engages a corresponding end of the cross member when the operating mechanism is moved toward the first position thereof. The cross member engages a linear latch surface of the cradles for latching the operating mechanism in the first position thereof.

摘要： A laminated contact assembly formed from a plurality of contact arm subassemblies includes a contact arm portion, for carrying a movable main or arcing contact, and a stationary conductor portion. A flexible shunt, form wound from a flat electrical conductor, is used to connect the contact arm portion to the stationary conductor portion. The flexible shunt is formed into a V-shape defining two depending legs. The free ends of the shunt defining bulb portions are inserted into keyholes formed in the contact arm portion and the stationary conductor portion. A pin is inserted into a central portion of the bulb portion to exert radially outward forces against the interior surface of the keyhole to increase the contact force between the bulb portions and the keyholes to form joints having a lower electrical resistance. The pin may be inserted into the central portion of the bulb portion by orbital riveting.

摘要： A circuit breaker includes a housing including a primary cover and a secondary cover having a tab; separable contacts; and an operating mechanism adapted to open and close the separable contacts. The operating mechanism includes a cradle pivotally mounted within the housing, the cradle including a latch, and a latch mechanism within the housing. The latch mechanism is adapted to capture the latch of the cradle when the separable contacts are closed. The operating mechanism also includes a rotary interlock pivotally mounted within the housing and cooperating with the latch mechanism and the tab of the secondary cover to release the latch of the cradle and to trip open the separable contacts when the secondary cover is removed from the primary cover.
