A central repository including one or more electrical energy storage devices is connected directly to the power grid. The one or more energy storage devices are configured to be connected to the power plants via the power grid. The central repository is operable to discharge power to the power grid during a second period shifted in time from the first period. The discharged power is a function of a grid requirement or a function of a power demand notified by an individual power plant of the electrical system.

    摘要: A system and method for producing multiple syngas products. In one embodiment (FIG. 5) a syngas producing system (200) includes a gasifier (210) and a hydrocarbon steam reformer (226). The gasifier (210) is configured to react a solid or liquid carbonaceous material (212) and provide a first syngas product (222). The reformer (226) is coupled to receive sensible heat from the first syngas product (222) and drive an endothermic reaction in which a second syngas product (238) is produced from a liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon supply (150). In a method of processing fuel, a solid or liquid carbonaceous material (212) is provided to a gasifier (210) in the form of a slurry, which is converted into a first syngas product (222) in an exothermic reaction. A liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon supply (150) receives sufficient sensible heat generated during the exothermic reaction to convert the liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon supply (150) into a second syngas product (238).

    摘要: A gas turbine cycle that utilizes the vaporization of liquefied natural gas as a source of inlet air chilling for a gas turbine. The cycle uses regeneration for preheating of combustor air and offers the potential of gas turbine cycle efficiencies in excess of 60%. The systems and methods permit the vaporization of LNG using ambient air, with the resulting super cooled air being easier to compress and/or having fewer contaminants therein. As the air is easier to compress, less energy is needed to operate the compressor, thereby increasing the efficiency of the system. A portion of the vaporized natural gas may be used as the combustion fuel for the gas turbine system, thereby permitting multiple turbines to be operated using a single topping cycle. In alternative embodiments, the vaporization of the LNG may be used as part of a bottoming cycle to increase the efficiencies of the gas turbine system.

    摘要: A method of generating power from residual fuel oil that is deasphalted with a flow of process steam to produce a deasphalted oil stream, a pitch stream, and a deasphalting condensate stream. The deasphalted oil stream is burned in a pressurized oxygen-bearing gas to produce a pressurized hot gas stream. This pressurized hot gas stream is expanded in a turbine that produces shaft power and an expanded gas stream. The expanded gas stream is cooled by transferring heat from it to a flow of feed water that becomes steam. A portion of the steam becomes at least part of the flow of process steam used to deasphalt the residual fuel oil, thus integrating the deasphalting and the steam generation.
