Abstract: A water filter cartridge has an end cap with inlet and outlet nozzles extending from the end cap. A lateral support extends laterally from at least one of the nozzles. A projection extends from the lateral support toward a receiving manifold to cooperate with the manifold during use. The lateral support is offset from the end cap so the projection is vertically offset from an end of the cartridge and laterally offset from and supported from the nozzles.

First and second seals encircle the first flow channel on the first portion and third and fourth seals encircle the second flow channel on the second portion. The second and third seals form a void volume during use which may be accessed by a vent path to eliminate moisture or to test for or indicate leaks. The radial flow paths reduce axial, push out forces on the filter cartridge and allow smaller locking tabs to be used. Abstract: A water purification system includes an activated carbon filter and a reverse-osmosis (RO) filter. The activated carbon filter is typically formed with a central aperture that receives an upper portion of a central tube. The RO filter, which is positioned downstream from the carbon filter, may be formed around a perforated section of the central tube. The system further includes a head that is structured to receive a sump that contains the carbon and RO filters, as well as the central tube. An inlet formed in the head enables unpurified feed water to flow into the carbon filter. A first channel, which is defined by an annular surface formed in the carbon filter and an outer surface of the central tube, enables water to flow into the RO filter. A channel within the central tube enables water to flow from the RO filter, through the perforated sections of the central tube, and into an outlet formed within the head.

Abstract: A water filter cartridge for refrigerators is configured to indicate leakage when a cartridge is installed in a manifold having a larger diameter, male inlet and a smaller diameter, coaxial, male outlet. The filter cap has a cylindrical recess that mates with an O-ring on the manifold inlet during use. A fluid passageway extends through the wall forming that recess and opens immediately adjacent that O-ring to carry any leaking water to the outside of the filter cap. The filter cap has a seal on a smaller diameter recess that mates with the sidewall of the male inlet at a distal end thereof. The smaller diameter recess may have slots that allow water to bypass seals on the male outlet member. Under normal water pressure the system will immediately visually exhibit a substantial leak if the filter cartridge is incorrectly coupled to the manifold.
