A power transmission unit for a vehicle is provided. In the power transmission unit, torque is transmitted between an input shaft and an output shaft through a continuously variable transmission and a gear train having an intermediate shaft. The continuously variable transmission adapted to alter a speed ratio continuously is disposed between the input shaft to which a torque of a prime mover is inputted and the output shaft that outputs the torque. The gear train is adapted to establish a speed ratio that cannot be established by the continuously variable transmission, and arranged at a different site from positions of the input shaft and the output shaft. The power transmission unit comprises: a torque reversing device that is adapted to perform a differential action among an input element, an output element and a reaction element adapted to rotate the input element and the output element in opposite directions when rotation thereof is halted, and that is disposed coaxially with the output shaft or the intermediate shaft; a first clutch device that connects at least any of two rotary elements of the torque reversing device; and a brake device that halts rotation of the reaction element. The input shaft is connected with the output shaft through the continuously variable transmission, and a second clutch device is disposed on a torque transmitting route from the input shaft to the output shaft via the continuously variable transmission to allow and interrupt torque transmission therethrough. The input shaft is connected with the output shaft through the gear train and the torque reversing device.

A pulley mechanism of a vehicular belt-type continuously variable transmission that makes it possible to enhance the joint strength between a rotary shaft and a stationary sheave without increasing the axial length of the belt-type continuously variable transmission is provided. Since a first stationary portion and a second stationary portion are provided on both sides of a step portion respectively, a stationary sheave is fixed by this first stationary portion and this second stationary portion, and the joint strength between the stationary sheave and an output shaft increases. Besides, a belt reaction force during power transmission can be received by the first stationary portion and the second stationary portion. Therefore, the amount of inclination of the stationary sheave during power transmission is also held small, and a fall in the torque capacity and transmission efficiency of the belt-type continuously variable transmission and a deterioration in the NV characteristics of the belt-type continuously variable transmission can be suppressed.

A twin-clutch-type transmission, which has a general input shaft, a first clutch connected with a first clutch output shaft, a second clutch connected with a second clutch output shaft, a sub shaft, and a general output shaft disposed parallel to the first clutch output shaft and the second clutch output shaft, is improved to effectively use the space around the sub shaft. A first gear connected to the first clutch output shaft and a second gear connected to the sub shaft associatingly interlock the sub shaft and the first clutch output shaft while being meshed to each other. A fifth gear and a sixth gear disposed on the general output shaft are respectively meshed with the third gear and the fourth gear which are connected to the second clutch output shaft and selectively connected to the general output shaft with a first synchronizing device disposed on the general output shaft, and interlock the second clutch output shaft and the general output shaft in association with the third gear and the fourth gear. A seventh gear meshed with the fifth gear and a eighth gear meshed with the fourth gear disposed on the sub shaft interlock the sub shaft and the general output shaft by selectively connecting the seventh gear and the eighth gear themselves to the sub shaft by the second synchronizing device so as to complete the first forward speed gearing in addition to completing the reverse gearing.
