Abstract: Provided are a practical rib type optical waveguide in which polarization dependence and wavelength dependence and the like are small and an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer using the same. An optical waveguide type optical multiplexer/demultiplexer of the present invention includes a substrate, M input optical waveguides and N output optical waveguides including a single mode rib type optical waveguide, multi-mode optical interference regions including a rib type optical waveguide, and reversible tapered regions that smoothly connect the input/output optical waveguides to the multi-mode optical interference regions and include M×N rib type optical waveguides, and both side surfaces of the multi-mode optical interference region are respectively formed in a stepped shape.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprises: an acquisition unit 11 acquires a three-dimensional luminance data of skin, the data being generated by optical coherence tomography performed by irradiating the skin of a finger with an optical beam in a two-dimensionally scanning manner; a first extraction unit 12 extracts from the three-dimensional luminance data of the skin, a pattern image of a pattern of the skin; a second extraction unit 213 extracts from the three-dimensional luminance data of the skin, a normal direction of a surface of the skin; and a generation unit 214 moves a position of a pixel included in the pattern image based on the normal direction to generate a post-move pattern image.

Abstract: An optical coherence tomography apparatus includes a branching and merging device that branches a light beam emitted from a wavelength sweeping laser light source into an object light beam and a reference light beam, a balanced photodetector that generates information about a change in an intensity ratio of interference light beams, which are generated by the interference between the object light beam and the reference light beam, wherein the object light beam is scattered from the measurement object after being transmitted through the transparent substrate including a structure that changes a thickness, and a control unit that acquires structural data of the measurement object in a depth direction based on the information about the change in the intensity ratio of the interference light beams and connects the structural data while moving an irradiation position of the object light beam with a position of the above structure as a reference.

Abstract: A swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) apparatus includes a plurality of wavelength-tunable light sources. The SS-OCT apparatus includes a first optical coupler configured to receive an output from each of the plurality of wavelength-tunable light sources. The optical coupler is configured to split the received output from the plurality of wavelength-tunable light sources into a reference optical path and a sample optical path. The SS-OCT apparatus includes a second optical coupler configured to receive return optical signals from the reference optical path and the sample optical path, and to output an optical interference signal. The SS-OCT apparatus includes a detector configured to detect the optical interference signal; and a controller configured to receive an electrical signal based on the detected optical interference signal. The controller is configured to generate a depth profile of the sample using compressed sensing.
