    Abstract: A method for assembling a two-dimensional fiber array launcher assembly. The method includes providing an alignment structure having a two-dimensional alignment plate with holes at one end and a two-dimensional beam shaper with micro-lenses at an opposite end. An endcap having a fiber attached thereto is systematically positioned in each hole, and is aligned with one of the micro-lenses with a high precision tolerance. The aligned endcap is then secured in the hole using a curable glue. This process is continued until all of the holes have aligned endcaps. If one of the endcaps is mis-aligned or becomes damaged, the glue can be heated and the endcap realigned or replaced.

    Abstract: A method for reducing nonlinear frequency shifts and suppressing stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a fiber laser amplifier system. The method includes providing a seed beam having a certain wavelength and frequency modulating the seed beam with an RF waveform to spectrally broadening the seed beam, where the RF waveform is a relatively slow-speed waveform having a large modulation depth. The method also includes amplifying the frequency modulated seed beam with an amplifier having a large nonlinear phase shift and exhibiting frequency modulation (FM) to amplitude modulation (AM) conversion, where the modulation depth is much larger than the nonlinear phase shift of the amplifier.

    Abstract: A method for fabricating a beam shaper array assembly, where the beam shaper array assembly changes the shape of a plurality of beams. The method includes providing an optical endcap having a plurality of connector stems, welding a fiber to each of the stems to form an emitter array and positioning a beam shaper array adjacent to the endcap opposite to the stems. The method also includes measuring an angle error and a position error of each fiber, calculating a correction for each fiber for the angle error and the position error and correcting the angle and position of each fiber using the calculated corrections.

    Abstract: A fiber amplifier system including an optical source providing an optical seed beam and an FM electro-optic modulator (EOM) that frequency modulates the seed beam to broaden its spectral linewidth. The system also includes an AM EOM that modulates the seed beam to provide an amplitude modulated seed beam that is synchronized with the frequency modulated seed beam. The system also includes a non-linear fiber amplifier receiving the AM and FM modulated seed beam, wherein the amplitude modulated seed beam causes self-phase modulation in the fiber amplifier that phase modulates the seed beam as it is being amplified by the fiber amplifier that acts to cancel the spectral linewidth broadening caused by the frequency modulation.

    Abstract: A beam shaper array assembly including a beam source that provides a plurality of beams having a low fill factor profile. The assembly also includes an input beam shaper array having cells positioned adjacent to each other, where each cell includes an input beam shaper that receives one of the plurality beams and is shaped to cause the beam to expand as it propagates away from the input array to be converted from the low fill factor profile to a high fill factor profile.
