Since the sensor magnet is covered by the yoke and the magnet cover, even when the sensor magnet is damaged, the damaged sensor magnet is prevented from damaging other components of the motor. By virtue of such configuration, the reliability of the motor is improved.

The housing includes a housing body having an opening at an upper side thereof, and a lid portion arranged between an armature and a sensor so as to close the opening of the housing body. Since the lid portion is made of a magnetic material and is arranged between the armature and the sensor, a magnetic effect on the sensor caused by a magnetic force generated at the armature is minimized. By virtue of such configuration in which the lid portion of the housing functions as a magnetic shield, the motor can be smaller in the axial direction compared with a configuration in which an extra layer of magnetic shield is arranged.

A resolver rotor for a variable reluctance resolver includes a plurality of axially stacked rotor pieces. The rotor pieces are jointly fitted into one body. In the fitting of the rotor pieces, deformed portions are provided between a center of the radial thickness of the resolver rotor and a side surface thereof which is opposite to a stator-side surface thereof. The number of deformed portions is the same as that of projecting poles of the resolver rotor. The deformed portions are arranged at circumferential positions of peaks of the respective projecting poles. At those positions, concave portions are provided on the side surface to receive deformations caused by fitting the rotor pieces together. Thus, the stator-side surface of the resolver rotor is less affected by fitting of the rotor pieces together, preventing a reduction in the detection accuracy of the resolver.

In a resolver of a motor, a plurality of wires forming a plurality of coils arranged at a resolver stator portion are arranged at a wiring surface which is arranged at a terminal block of a connector portion and extends between an annular shape surface arranged substantially perpendicularly to a central axis at a core back of an insulator and a plurality of terminal pins, and are connected to a control unit via the terminal pins. Each of the wires of the resolver includes a slackened portion formed at a portion thereof between corresponding terminal pins and corresponding coils. The slackened portion is accommodated in a groove portion arranged at the wiring surface of the connector portion in order to minimize the possibility of damaging the wire improving reliability of the connection between the terminal pin and the coil.
