    摘要: A method of applying a liquid to a moving web while pushing an extrusion application head to the moving web without supporting the moving web on the reverse side thereof. The application is performed while the accumulation of the liquid to be applied to the moving web is maintained by (a) the moving web and (b) an edge of the back blade of the extrusion application head, the edge being defined by the intersection of (1) a first surface of the back blade which faces the front blade and which is nearest the web, and (2) a second surface of the back blade which is more remote from the front blade than the first surface and, wherein the pressure of the liquid of the accumulation located between the web and the outlet portion of the slit of the extrusion application head is set within a range from 0.2 kg/cm.sup.2 gauge to 0.8 kg/cm.sup.2 gauge per 50 cm of width of applied liquid.

    摘要: A multi-layer coating method by which multi-layered magnetic recording media having good recording characteristics can be produced consistently at high speed with multiple thin layers being coated simultaneously while insuring effective prevention of unwanted phenomena such as color unevenness and longitudinal streaks. A plurality of organic solvent based dispersions that are non-Newtonian fluids having fine particles dispersed therein are simultaneously applied in superposition onto a continuously running nonmagnetic support using an extrusion type applicator head. The coating operation is performed in such a manner that the Reynolds number as determined by the average of the kinetic viscosity coefficients of the dispersions, the coating speed and the equivalent diameter during coating is adjusted to 400 or below, and that, at the same time, the yield stress of at least the dispersion for the topmost layer is adjusted to 10 dyne/cm.sup.2 or more. Further, the coating operation is performed in such a way that the ratio of .eta..sub.T to .eta..sub.H is adjusted to 50 or above, where .eta..sub.H is the viscosity of the dispersions at the rate of shear that is exerted upon the dispersions when they are applied using an extrusion type applicator head, and .eta..sub.T is the viscosity of the dispersions at the shear rate for the time period defined by the end of application and the entrance into the subsequent drying zone.

    摘要: A coating method and an extrusion-type coating head in which turbulence at the junction between two flows of coating materials is prevented to provide multi-layer simultaneous coating over a wide range of coating rates and with a good coating quality. An intermediate block is sandwiched between a rear block defining a back edge and a front block defining a doctor edge. Two coating flows pass through slits formed on either side of the intermediate block, joining at the top end of the intermediate block and flowing together into a short slot extending between the end of the intermediate block and the outlet of the head.

    摘要: An application device capable of very rapidly applying a liquid in the form of a thin film to a continuously moving flexible carrier in such a manner as to avoid corrosion and wear to the surface of the doctor edge portion of the application device to thus avoid the formation of streaks on the surface of the applied liquid. A clearance between the surface of the carrier and the surface of the doctor edge portion is made larger at the downstream end of the surface of the doctor edge portion than at the upstream part thereof. For this purpose, a support roller is provided near the downstream end of the surface of the doctor edge portion so that the clearance between the surface of the doctor edge portion and the surface of the carrier can be appropriately controlled along substantially the entire width of the doctor edge portion by adjustably displacing the roller. Application is performed while the clearance between the surface of the carrier and the doctor edge portion is set larger at the downstream end of the surface of the doctor edge portion than at the upstream part of the surface thereof.

    摘要: The transfer apparatus includes a light source, a transmission type image display device in which a liquid crystal layer is held between two sets of substrates and polarizing plates and a photosensitive recording medium. The light source, the image display device and the photosensitive recording medium are arranged in series along a direction in which light from the light source advances and the image display device and the photosensitive recording medium are arranged in a non-contact state. A display image transmitted from the transmission type image display device is transferred to the photosensitive recording medium. A distance between the image display device and the photosensitive recording medium and a sum total of thicknesses of the substrate and the polarizing plate at least on a side of the photosensitive recording medium in the image display device are set in accordance with a definition of the display image.
