摘要： A process is described for metallising a polymeric surface of an article. The process comprises applying to the polymeric surface a liquid carrier containing a suspension of metallic or metal-looking particles. The polymeric surface and the liquid carrier are such that the wetting angle between the liquid carrier and the polymeric surface is of substantially 90° or above and the particles and the polymeric surface are such that the particles have a greater affinity to the polymeric surface than to one another or to the liquid, so that particles suspended in the liquid migrate to the interface between the liquid and the polymeric surface to form a monolayer coating of particles on the polymeric surface.

The metallic coating composition includes: a binder component containing a phosphate group-containing acrylic resin (A), a polyisocyanate compound (B), and a cellulose resin (C); and a vapor-deposition aluminum pigment (D), wherein the vapor-deposition aluminum pigment (D) is present in an amount of 10 to 95 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the total solids content of the binder component, and wherein the phosphate group-containing acrylic resin (A) is a copolymer resin of a monomer mixture consisting of 3 to 48 mass % of a phosphate group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a1), 6 to 45 mass % of a hydroxy-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a2), and 10 to 91 mass % of other polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a3), based on the total amount of all of the monomers.

The surface of nonconducting substrates is modified with a superabsorbent polymer to increase silver deposition when compared to a non-modified surface. Also provided are films produced using a swelling agent, whereby porosity of the surface of the nonconducting substrate is increased, thereby permitting increased silver deposition when compared to an unmodified surface.

The powder mixture may adhere to adhesive material applied to one or more surfaces of an object. The powder mixture may adhere to one or more heated surfaces of an object.
