    摘要: A system for communicating data between a computer and a unit remote from the computer is provided, comprising receiving input information from a user in the remote unit and for producing data signals corresponding to the input information, producing error corrected message signals from the data signals, generating acoustical tones corresponding to the error corrected message signals, communicating said acoustical tones over a first communications link, said first communications link being bi-directional so that the remote unit communicates data with the computer, and receiving acoustic tones over said first communications link from the computer, the acoustical tones being adjusted for the conditions of the first communication link prior to transmission to the remote unit. The remote unit may also receive data from the computer over a second communications link, which is independent of the first communications link so that the remote unit receives data from two different communications links. A system for communicating a plurality of different types of data between a user and a computer during a single data session is also provided.

    摘要: A multi-function electronic messaging system for transmitting messages over a first communications link having a remote unit for generating forward error corrected signals representing various types of electronic messages, for generating acoustical tones corresponding to the error corrected signals is provided. The acoustical tones are coupled to the send-only first communications link and transferred to a computer. The computer sends an acknowledgement signal back to the user of the remote unit over the first communications link and decodes and error checks the signals. The computer also reformats the various messages and resends them out over various communication links depending on the ultimate destination of the message. The computer may also send messages to the remote unit over a receive-only second communications link. A multi-level method of error detecting and correcting data is also disclosed.

    摘要: A fixed lens camera comprises a fixed focus lens, an infrared filter, and an optical low pass filter, all disposed in succession within a housing, coaxial with an optical axis. Light from a target passes through an aperture in the housing, and then through the lenses and filters. An image sensor receives the filtered light, and outputs a two-dimensional array signal of corresponding voltages proportional to the incident light striking each sensing element. The voltage signal from the image sensor is filtered using a high pass filter, and the high frequency components of the signal are measured to determine the relative focus of the light from the target. The signal measurement is displayed on a bar LCD to enable focusing of the lens by moving the camera along the optical axis while observing the LCD output.

    摘要: An orientation sensor generates a left orientation signal and a right orientation signal to indicate whether a camera is in an upright orientation, a left orientation, a right orientation, or an inverted orientation. A setting unit retrieves the left and right orientation signals and light intensity signals corresponding to image measurement zones. Based upon the values of the left and right orientation signals, the setting unit uses different weighted combinations of the light intensity signals to determine optimum exposure and focus settings. The orientation sensor includes a first tube and a second tube that each contain an indicating object. The indicating object within each tube selectively provides two orientation signals based upon the camera's orientation relative to an image, thereby changing an orientation signal from a binary "0" signal to a binary "1" signal.

    摘要: A system and method for conserving power within a backup battery device comprises a main battery for generating a main operating voltage and a secondary operating voltage, a switching device for connecting the main operating voltage to a secondary power bus which powers a memory device, and a power manager for sensing whenever the main battery drops to a first threshold voltage, whereupon the power manager connects the secondary operating voltage to the secondary power bus if the memory device contains data, and disconnects the main operating voltage from the secondary power bus. The backup battery generates the secondary operating voltage whenever the power manager senses that the main battery has reached a second threshold voltage.

The method of the present invention preferably comprises the steps of monitoring the power source's voltage, generating a signal if that voltage falls below a pre-determined threshold, and reducing the camera's power consumption in response to the signal.

    摘要: The invention comprises a battery coupled to a power bus, an external power connector coupled to the power bus for receiving an external power plug, and two switching devices for disconnecting the battery from the power bus when the external power plug is coupled to the connector. The battery supplies power to the camera unless the external power plug is coupled to the connector. Upon coupling of the external power plug to the connector, the two switching devices, which are positioned in series between the negative terminal of the battery and the system ground, are opened. The opening of the two switching devices disconnects the battery from the power bus and connector to prevent damage which could be caused by applying an externally supplied voltage from the external power plug across the positive and negative terminals of the battery.
