    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate; a second substrate; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and the second substrates; a plurality of electrodes for applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer; a first alignment film provided on a surface of the first substrate in contact with the liquid crystal layer; a second alignment film provided on a surface of the second substrate in contact with the liquid crystal layer; and a plurality of pixels. The liquid crystal layer in each of the pixels includes first and second liquid crystal regions, liquid crystal molecules in the first and the second liquid crystal regions have an identical twisting direction. Pretilt angles of liquid crystal molecules in the first alignment region and the second alignment region on the first and the second alignment films differ from each other, and the liquid crystal display device is fabricated by a method including the step of irradiating light onto a predetermined area of each of the first and the second alignment films in a gas containing an organic compound.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device is provided, in which a liquid crystal layer made of liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy is provided in a gap between a pair of substrates each having an electrode, wall-shaped convex portions are provided so as to surround display pixels on at least one of the substrates, a homeotropic alignment film is provided on a surface of each of the substrates contacting the liquid crystal layer, liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are aligned substantially in a direction perpendicular to the pair of substrates when a voltage is not applied, and the liquid crystal molecules are axially symmetrically aligned in each of the display pixels formed by opposing portions of the electrodes when a voltage is applied. In this device, the gap between the substrates is maintained by spacers dispersed on one of the substrates after the alignment film is formed, and the number of spacers in each of the display pixels is zero or one.

    摘要: A liquid crystal (LC) display device includes a LC panel and a driving circuit. The LC panel exhibits, in its voltage-transmittance characteristics, an extreme transmittance at a voltage equal to or lower than a lowest gray-level voltage. The driving circuit supplies to the LC panel a predetermined driving voltage overshooting a gray-level voltage corresponding to an input image signal of a current vertical period, according to a combination of an input image signal of an immediately preceding vertical period and the input image signal of the current vertical period.

With this arrangement, it is possible to display gray scale levels of the image signals, thereby realizing display of a moving image of high image quality.
