摘要： A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display device, a surface light source to irradiate light toward the device, an optical film disposed between the device and source, and a diffusion member disposed between the film and device. The device includes a pair of substrates facing to each other through a space with electrodes formed on at least one of opposite surfaces, a liquid crystal layer sealed into the space between the substrates, and a pair of polarizing plates arranged sandwiching the substrates therebetween. The film is made of a transparent film-like member and has two mutually faced film surfaces, one of the surfaces is formed into a planar shape, the other surface is formed into a convexo-concave structure with elongate microprisms in parallel to each other, and the film is disposed between the device and source with the one surface directed toward the device.

摘要： A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device includes steps of preparing first and second substrates, forming alignment films on one surfaces of the first and second substrates, respectively, performing rubbing treatment on the alignment films, screen-printing a seal member on the one surface of the first substrate so as to surround a display area, and stacking the first and second substrates on each other while the first surfaces face to each other, with rubbing directions of the alignment films on the first and second substrates being parallel to each other, and joining the first and second substrates through the seal member by curing the seal member while the first and second substrates are bonded to each other through the seal member. The screen-printing is performed while a squeegee is moved in a direction parallel to the rubbing direction of the alignment film formed on the first substrate.

On the inner surface of the one substrate, auxiliary electrodes to generate electric fields of a predetermined value between the auxiliary electrodes and the opposing electrode provided on the inner surface of the other substrate are provided respectively corresponding to those portions around the plural pixel electrodes that are close to at least the TFTs.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device comprises a TFT substrate, a CF substrate, a liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy filled between the substrates, a pixel electrode provided on the TFT substrate, and an auxiliary electrode formed around the pixel electrode. A slit for segmenting a pixel region into a plurality of sub-pixel regions is formed in the pixel electrode from the center portion of each pixel toward the periphery portion thereof. The auxiliary electrode has a transparent step film formed at a position corresponding to the slit of the pixel electrode in such a way as to overlie the auxiliary electrode. Molecules of the liquid crystal of each sub-pixel region are aligned toward center of the sub-pixel region from the circumference of the sub-pixel region by a horizontal electric filed applied between the pixel electrode and auxiliary electrode, and the shape of the end portion of the transparent step film.

Each pixel electrode has a slit formed for separating each pixel into a plurality of sub-pixels by partially eliminating the pixel electrode with a connecting portion left at which adjoining electrode portions of each pixel electrode is connected with each other. The width W1 of the pixel electrode that runs in a direction in which the slit is formed and width W2 of the connecting portion have a ratio W2/W1 of 0.13 or lower.
