摘要: Provided is a novel electrochemical display element which performs bright white display, high contrast black/white display and full-color display with a simple member configuration. A method for driving such display element is also provided. The display element contains an electrochromic compound, which is colored or has its color disappear due to oxidation or reduction, a metallic salt compound, an electrolyte and a white scattered material, between opposing electrodes. The display element substantially performs multiple color display of three colors or more, i.e., black display, white display and colored display other than black, by driving operation of the opposing electrodes.

摘要: A display element in which a tone variation in halftone color is reduced at the time of repetitive driving. The display element contains electrolyte which contains silver between counter electrodes or contains a compound including silver in the chemical structure, and performs drive operation of the counter electrodes to cause dissolution deposition of silver. The display element is characterized by satisfying a relation A1/A2>4, where A1 (mA/cm2) is the maximum absolute value of a current flowing between the counter electrodes when they are driven in the direction for depositing silver from a state where silver is not deposited on the display electrode side, and A2 (mA/cm2) is the maximum absolute value of a current flowing between the counter electrodes when they are driven in the direction for dissolving silver from a state where silver is not deposited on the display electrode side.
