    摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting rim surface defects in glass containers wherein the edge of a loop of a thin, flexible strip of mechanically durable tape is placed in contact with the sealing rim surface of the glass container while the surface is rotated. The loop of tape is supported in such a manner that it will be flexed or deflected when the lower edge of the loop is contacted by a defect and the deflection of the loop will close a contact, completing a circuit for indicating the presence of a defect in the container. The particular arrangement of the mounting of the tape and the steadying means for the bottle are such that these elements are at a preselected or preset, constant level and the container is brought into and rotated in the inspection station without requiring relative vertical movement of the container and the sensing head.

    摘要: A glass container undergoing inspection is stabilized with two tapered rolls which engage a rim portion thereof. The container is rotated by a drive wheel which engages one edge of the container heel. One tapered roll holds the container in contact with the drive wheel. The other, diametrically opposed tapered roll holds the opposite side of the container heel at a generally fixed elevation above a slide plate by providing a balancing reaction force to the forces exerted by the first tapered roll and the drive wheel. Both tapered rolls are spring loaded and pivotally mounted to allow forcing a glass container into engagement with them as the container enters the inspection position.

    摘要: Indexing mechanism for multiple-station, glassware inspection machines in which two or more pocketed star wheels are used. The mounting of the plural star wheels, which are selected as to size of pockets depending on the height and width of the ware being inspected, is simplified by the use of a universal hub to which the lower star wheel is fixed. Additional star wheels are mounted on the hub at adjustable heights by the use of split, clamping rings that are keyed to the hub to maintain vertical orientation of the pockets of all star wheels.
