摘要: The invention provides compositions and methods for making and using sterically enhanced antagonist aptamer conjugates that include a nucleic acid sequence having a specific affinity for a target molecule and a soluble, high molecular weight steric group that augments or facilitates the inhibition of binding to, or interaction with, the target molecule binding partner by the target molecule when bound to the aptamer conjugate. The present invention also provides methods and formulations for ocular delivery of a biologically active molecule by attaching a charged moiety to the biologically active molecule and delivering the biologically active molecule by iontophoresis. Iontophoresis of a biologically active molecule that is conjugated to a high molecular weight neutral moiety, in enhanced by substituting the high molecular weight neutral moiety with a charged molecule of comparable size.

摘要: Formulations for controlled, sustained release of biologically active agents for the treatment of ocular disorders have been developed. These formulations are based on solid microparticles formed of the combination of biodegradable, synthetic polymers such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(glycolic acid) (PGA), and copolymers thereof. The microparticles are characterized by low burst levels and efficient drug loading and sustained release.

摘要: Disclosed is a heating unit which can comprise a tube, or pipe, having an aperture therein which can be configured to receive a heating element. In various embodiments, the heating element can comprise a resistive element which can be configured to generate heat when a voltage differential is applied thereto. In certain embodiments, the heating unit can further comprise a collar which is threadably engaged with the tube, wherein a flame path, or exhaust path, can be defined between threads on the pipe and threads on the collar, for example. In certain embodiments, the flame path can comprise a passageway defined between the circumference, or perimeter, of the tube and the collar. Such a flame path can be configured to allow pressurized gasses to safely escape from the tube along a predetermined path.

The method includes writing a diffraction grating in the photorefractive waveguide with a laser, measuring spectral characteristics of the diffraction grating, and allowing the diffraction grating to self-write from interference between a forward beam and a Fresnel reflection, such that the diffraction grating is adjusted for changes in ambient conditions.

摘要: A dye laser amplifier is formed by a stimulated brillouin scattering (SBS) dye cell which receives both dye laser light to be amplified and a pump beam along a common optical path. Phase conjugation and amplification of received energy are reflected from the SBS cell. The cell comprises an SBS medium that is a solvent for the laser dye used. Typical SBS mediums are methanol, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, etc. Typical dyes are Rhodamine 6G, Rhodamine B, Rhodamine 560, Rhodamine 575, Sulphorhodamine B, Kiton Red, DCM, Courrarun 523, etc. A plurality of amplifiers may be connected in series to provide increased amplification. The action of the phase conjugation corrects optical distorsions, thereby preserving beam quality and bandwidth even after multiple amplifications.
