    摘要: A method is provided for forming a strippable or dissolvable release coating on the surface of substrate such as a flexible polymeric film or web. The release coating is subsequently coated with a layer of material and then dissolved in a solvent to release the layer. The release coating is made from a copolymer of methylmethacrylate and ethylacrylate or from a homopolymer of polyacrylic acid. Release coatings made of methylmethacrylate and ethylacrylate copolymers having glass transition temperatures of about 60.degree. C. or greater, or made of a ipolyacrylic acid homopolymer having a glass transition temperature of about 100.degree. C. or higher, are also provided. The release coatings provide excellent supporting substrates for the formation of an overcoated metallized layer, are readily strippable in acetone, and can be formed during an in-line process which begins with drawing a flexible film or web from a molten polymeric material. Methods are also provided for making metallized layers used in the production of optically variable flakes and devices.

    摘要: A method is provided for forming a dissolvable or strippable polymeric release coating on the surface of flexible web, forming an overcoated metallized or optically variable layer on said release coating, and stripping or dissolving the release coating to release the overcoated layer. The release coating comprises a polymer of crotonic acid which is soluble in a solvent such as acetone. The polymer may be a copolymer of crotonic acid and at least one vinyl ester such as vinyl acetate. The release coating may be formed during an in-line process which begins with drawing the flexible web from a molten polymeric material. The methods are particularly advantageous for forming optically variable flakes and multilayered optically variable devices.

    摘要: A flexible magnetic recording media having superior peel strength is disclosed. The magnetic recording media comprises a primer coated polyester film which has been overcoated with a coating comprising ferromagnetic particles dispersed in a polymeric binder. The primer coating is preferably sodium oleate which has been in-line coated onto polyethylene terephthalate film. The ferromagnetic particles are preferably chromium dioxide particles. The polymeric binder is preferably a polyurethane reaction product of (A) a hydrolytically stable difunctional alcohol, (B) a chain extender, and (C) an aromatic diisocyanate.

    摘要: A polyester film coated with an antistatic coating is provided. The film includes a polyester film support coated on one side with a latex coating. The coating includes stearamidopropyldimethyl-.beta.-hydroxy-ethylammonium nitrate present in a concentration in the range of between about 2.75 percent and 3.25 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the latex coating. The coating further includes a crosslinkable methylmethacrylate-ethylacrylate-methacrylamide terpolymer having a glass transition temperature in the range of between about 40.degree. C. and 50.degree. C. The terpolymer is present in a concentration in the range of between about 0.75 percent and 1.25 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the latex coating. The weight ratio of the nitrate to the terpolymer ranges between about 2.75:1 to below 3:1.A process for forming the above film is also disclosed. In this process a latex coating of the composition described above is coated onto a uniaxially drawn polyester film support. The uniaxially drawn film is then heated to drive off the water and thereafter the uniaxially coated film is stretched in a direction normal to that of the uniaxial drawn film.

    摘要: A polyester film having a nodule surface is disclosed. The acrylic coating is preferably a crosslinked composition having a relatively high methyl methacrylate content and specific surfactants. The acrylic coating composition is applied as an aqueous dispersion to polyester film, preferably after corona treatment of the polyester film. The nodule surface reduces the coefficient of friction of the polyester film. The coating composition comprises from 60 to 90 mole percent methyl methacrylate; from 10 to 35 mole percent of at least one modifier selected from the group of ethyl acrylate, propyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and mixtures of these; and from 3 to 10 mole percent of a crosslinkable monomer or a self-crosslinking monomer selected from the group of N-methylol methacrylamide, N-methylol acrylamide, acrylamide, methacrylamide, and mixtures of these; with from 2 to 15 weight percent of the nonionic surfactant and at least 0.1 percent by weight of the anionic surfactant.
