    摘要: An image processing apparatus including tandem print engines is provided for forming an image on an image receiving substrata. The apparatus includes a first print engine and a second print engine downstream from the first print engine. The second print engine is slaved to the first print engine. The first print engine has a first photoreceptor and a first period of revolution. The second print engine has a second photoreceptor and a second period of revolution. The image processing apparatus further includes an intermediate inverter that inverts the image receiving substrate between the first print engine and the second print engine. The inverter determines a phase difference between a first seam signal from the first photoreceptor and a second seam signal from the second photoreceptor.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for controlling lateral movement of a belt supported on two or more rollers in an electrophotographic printing machine. The belt is rotated for several revolutions and the actual profile of the belt edge is sensed and stored. A steering roll is then tilted at an angle large enough to overcome any steering system backlash and the belt drift rate is measured. Incremental steering adjustments are then made in the opposite direction until the belt drift rate reverses direction. The steering system backlash is then determined as a function of the incremental angle (which is a known number of steering motor steps) and the number of corrective steering changes made. The backlash for the system in the opposite direction is then determined in the same manner. Steering corrections to the belt are then made with compensation for backlash so that the steering system is more responsive.

    摘要: A single pass highlight color printer is disclosed which utilizes two pairs of Raster Output Scan (ROS) systems mounted symmetrically about a common polygon motor assembly. Four identical optical systems are thus provided, 180.degree. apart with diode laser outputs directed from a ROS frame parallel and separated to allow the appropriate spacing for xerographic components situated adjacent the xerographic belt. Each ROS unit includes a 90.degree. mirror pair which is mounted on a roof mirror carriage which in turn is connected to a focus carriage via an adjustable guide system. The interaction between the focus carriage and the roof mirror carriage enables a skew alignment and process (beam steering) adjustment to be accomplished with a high degree of precision.

    摘要: The velocity of a photoreceptor belt is measured by sensing the passing of illuminated slits in the belt, as the belt moves in a process direction. Two linear position sensors are positioned so as to view the passing of the illuminated slits. The sensors are aligned in a staggered configuration so that there is an overlap region. The slits are positioned so that as one slit is moving off of a downstream sensor, a second slit is moving over the upstream sensor. The output from an illuminated sensor is alternately switched to the second sensor. The sensor outputs are differentiated to provide an output signal representing a belt velocity. The velocity is compared to said velocity in the belt drive system and error signals generated to compensate for detected changes in the belt velocity.

    摘要: A document reproduction system is disclosed which employs an imaging array assembly positioned to transmit reflected images from a document in an object plane onto an imaging plane. The imaging assembly includes a 1X lens array and at least one reduction/enlargement lens array. The overall dimensions of the total imaging area of the reproduction system are reduced from conventional fixed lens or fixed document system by providing means for moving the document, imaging assembly and imaging plane in certain prescribed relationships. These means include a pulley/cable/clutch arrangement which enables changes in velocity relationships which are required for a unity magnification mode of operation as well as those for a reduction or enlargement modes of operation.

    摘要: A printing apparatus comprises a plurality of substantially identical modules forming a common sheet path. Each module includes an image receptor, a supply of marking material of a predetermined type, and a marking engine for creating an image of marking material on the sheet. Within each module a transport receives a sheet, moves the sheet to receive the image from the marking engine, and makes the sheet available for printing by a subsequent module in the sheet path. A sheet sensing system within each module detects a position of the sheet and uses that information to adjust the position of the image to be transferred to the sheet.

    摘要: The present disclosure describes a method of automatically controlling feeding and transporting print media sheets through plural electrostatic print engines having seamed photoreceptor belts for duplex printing. In one embodiment the second photoreceptor belt is driven at a variable speed to maintain a constant phase relationship between the respective seams of the belts. The print image magnification on the front side of the printed sheet is matched by varying the speed of the scanner (ROS) in the second engine. In another embodiment. the first and second photoreceptor belts are both driven at a constant speed and the seam phase allowed to float. Sensors provide a timing signal upon passage of the seam in each belt respectively; and, the position of the belt seams thus determined. The system then calculates a release time for each sheet from the feeder to insure the sheet avoids the seam on both belts.
