摘要: A kraft paper sheet contains and/or is coated with a fungi growth-inhibiting agent that causes the kraft paper sheet to be fungi growth resistant. The kraft paper sheet alone or as part of a layered sheet material is used as a central field portion of facings for various faced building insulation assemblies. The facings, as part of an insulation assembly, are fungi growth resistant; may be perforated to provide the facing with a selected water vapor permeance; and/or may include a bonding layer, such as a heat activated bonding layer, that bonds the facing to an insulation layer of the assembly.

摘要: A fungi resistant asphalt is combined with a base sheet to form a fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material. Typically, the base sheet is a fibrous base sheet that, by itself, may or may not be fungi resistant. The fungi resistant asphalt is at least partially absorbed by the base sheet to form the fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material and typically forms one or both major surfaces of the fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material.

摘要: A faced building insulation assembly includes a first facing forming a first major surface of the assembly with a central field portion having one or more spunbond continuous polymeric filament mat layers. Preferably, the facing is fungi growth resistant and has a selected water vapor permeance rating as applied to an insulation layer of the assembly. The facing may also include one or more polymeric film layers, a fungi growth inhibiting agent, a pesticide, and/or a heat activated bonding agent that bonds the facing to the insulation layer of the assembly. The insulation assembly may also include a second facing forming a second major surface of the assembly that has a water vapor permeance rating equal to or differing from the first facing.

The facing may include a fungi growth-inhibiting agent, be perforated to provide a selected water vapor permeance, and/or may include a heat activated bonding agent. The facing may have lateral tabs that are transparent, sufficiently open to enable wallboard to be directly bonded to framing members overlaid by the tabs, and/or of greater integrity than the field portion of the facing. The field portion of the facing may include a coating to stiffen the facing, inhibit fungi growth, and/or decrease flame spread and smoke formation.

摘要: The facing of a faced insulation layer has Z-folded, double-folded, or single-folded lateral tabs extending the length of the facing sheet along or spaced inwardly from lateral edges of the facing sheet. Each lateral tab has multiple segments. One of the segments of each lateral tab has an adhesive thereon that can be exposed and extended beyond one of the lateral edges of the insulation layer for bonding the faced insulation layer to a framing member. Where the blanket is separable into sections, the facing has pairs of separable tabs that separate when the blanket is separated to expose surfaces of the separable tabs with adhesive thereon. The adhesive may be microencapsulated or have microencapsulated constituent(s).

摘要: An insulated air duct includes a flexible, reinforced, inner tubular core; a layer of partially compressed flexible, resilient fibrous insulation surrounding the core; and a flexible jacket, preferably with a longitudinally extending seam, spaced outwardly from the core and enveloping the layer of partially compressed fibrous insulation. The layer of partially compressed fibrous insulation is formed from a resilient blanket of air laid, randomly oriented, entangled fibers. The resilient blanket may have a low binder content or be binderless with the fibers unbonded and, possibly, lubricated. The lubricant on the fibers facilitates the sliding of the fibers relative to each other, reduces fiber attrition due to abrasion as the fibers move relative to each other; and enhances the resilience of the blanket when subjected to compression whereby the layer of compressed fibrous insulation surrounding the core remains expanded in its partially compressed state, to the extent permitted by a space between the core and the jacket, to provide the duct with good insulating properties and to exert an outward pressure on the jacket to improve the appearance of the jacket. Preferably, the resilient blanket is wrapped about the core while being supported on the jacket so that the blanket will not pull apart during the wrapping process.

摘要: A foam insulation sheet has a major surface, such as the interior surface of a duct liner over which gases flow within a duct, coated with a relatively smooth, tough elastomeric coating of substantially uniform thickness. Preferably, the coating has a tough skin and penetrates into interstices of the major surface of the foam sheet to firmly bond the elastomeric coating to the foam sheet. One method of forming the tough skin on the coating includes contacting a frothed aqueous cross-linkable acrylic latex emulsion, applied to the major surface of the foam sheet, with a hot ironing surface to dewater an exposed surface of the frothed emulsion, to free bubbles from the exposed surface of the frothed emulsion at the exposed surface of the frothed emulsion, prior to curing the remainder of the frothed aqueous cross-linkable acrylic latex emulsion.

摘要: A fire resistant resilient insulation assembly, includes: a resilient insulation and a fire resistant polymeric film forming a tubular envelope surrounding the resilient insulation. The fire resistant polymeric film includes: 50 to 80 weight percent high density polymeric material; 5 to 45 weight percent linear low density polymeric material; 5 to 25 weight percent fire retardant concentrate (a halogen and a synergist in a polymeric carrier); 0 to 5 weight percent UV stabilizer; and 0 to 10 weight percent pigment. Preferably, the film is a two layer coextruded film with the outer layer being a predominately linear low density polymer that provides a good finish for printing and a relatively high coefficient of friction to improve the handling of the film during the encapsulation of the blanket. The inner layer is predominately high density polymer that provides the coextruded film with the impact strength and tear resistance required for processing and handling.

摘要: A resilient fibrous insulation blanket is compression-cut longitudinally at one and typically a plurality of laterally spaced apart locations to form a form a pre-cut fibrous insulation blanket having a plurality of blanket sections that can be separated from each other by hand. The compression cutting of the blanket to form the blanket sections causes a first major surface of the blanket to become temporarily deformed and destabilized. When the blanket is faced, the facing is applied to the other major surface of the blanket while the first major surface is still deformed. Where the blanket is formed from a wider blanket, the wider blanket is at least partially cut prior to the compression-cutting operation to reduce lateral stresses in the blanket when the blanket is compression-cut.
