摘要: A display device comprising a light guide (12), a front plate (14), and an intermediate electromechanically operable foil (16). Two electrode layers (22, 23) are arranged on either side of the foil (16) to induce electrostatic forces on the foil (16) and to bring selected portions of the foil into contact with the light guide (12), thereby extracting light from the light guide (12). The second electrode layer (22) is arranged on the opposite side of the light guide (12) with reference to the foil (16), and separated from the light guide (12) by means of a refractive layer (28). As no electrode layer is required on the light guide itself, the light path of rays extracted from the light guide is cleaner, and the absorption of light is reduced. The light guide can have a thickness such that the light extracted from the light guide per unit length is sufficient to allow for line-at-a-time addressing.

摘要: The electrophoretic display panel(1) for displaying a picture and subsequently displaying a subsequent picture has a pixel(2) having an electrophoretic medium (5) having first and second charged particles (6,7) and an optical state depending on the positions of the particles (6,7) in the common region (30) of the pixel (2). Furthermore, transition control means are able to control a transition of the first and the second particles (6,7) being in substantially separated domains of the common region (30) for displaying the picture to substantially separated domains of the common region (30) for displaying the subsequent picture. For the display panel (1) to be able to have an attainable optical state for displaying the subsequent picture which is unequal to the optical state determined by the mixture of the first and second particles (6,7), even if the particles (6,7) have substantially equal electrophoretic mobilities, the transition control means are further able to control the first and the second particles (6,7) to be in substantially separated domains of the common region (30) during the transition.

摘要: A display device for displaying a three dimensional image such that different views are displayed according to the viewing angle. The display device includes a display panel having separately addressable pixels for displaying the image, where the pixels are grouped such that different pixels in a group correspond to different views. The display device further includes a retarder in optical association with the display panel. The retarder includes retarder pixels, where at least one retarder pixel is associated with each corresponding pixel in the display panel. Optical parameters of the retarder pixels are varied as function of the viewing angle associated with the corresponding pixel in the display panel.

Each pixel is provided with a common electrode (3) extending over the first and second subpixel. The first sub-pixel is provided with a first sub-pixel electrode (11) and the second sub-pixel is provided with a second sub-pixel electrode (12). Preferably, the first sub-pixel is provided with a first light absorbing layer (21) and the second sub-pixel is provided with a second light absorbing layer (22), while the first and second light absorbing layer are provided at opposite sites of the pixels. Preferably, the electrophoretic medium comprises micro-encapsulated electrophoretic ink. Preferably, the ink comprises two types of particles (31; 32) always staying in the optical path of the pixels. According to the invention a doublesided display device is provided with a single electrophoretic medium.

摘要: The present invention relates to a display device with a detection system for detecting an input po- sition on a screen (301) of the display. A light guide (302) is arranged adjacent to the screen (301). The light guide (302) has a light source (308) arranged to emit light (310) into the light guide (302). The optical matching between the light guide (302) and its surroundings is adapted such that the light (310) of the light source (308) is normally confined within the light guide (302) by means of total internal reflection. However, a user establishing physi- cal contact with the light guide (302) perturbs the state of total internal reflection, and light (310) will be extracted from the light guide (302). In the display device, light detecting means (303) are arranged to detect said light (310) and relate this detection to an input position where the user contact occurred. The display is preferably an LCD, O-LED or P-LED type display.

摘要: A display device for displaying a three dimensional image such that different views are displayed according to the viewing angle has a display panel with a plurality of separately addressable pixels for displaying said image. The pixels are grouped such that different pixels in a group correspond to different views of the image. A display driver controls a transmission characteristic of each pixel to generate an image according to received image data. The drive signals applied to each pixel in the display panel are adjusted using intensity correction values that vary the optical transmission of each pixel within a group so as to produce an intensity for each point in the image that is independent of viewing direction.
