Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating and transmitting bit rate conversion information to be utilized during bit rate conversion decisions and a method and apparatus for performing bit rate adaptation of media signals to use an available bandwidth of a channel, the media signals being associated with bit rate conversion information, the method for utilizing the bit rate conversion information including the steps of: receiving the media signals and the bit rate conversion information; the bit rate conversion information being indicative of a change in a bit rate of the media signals resulting from bit rate conversion; and converting the multiplexed processed media signals in response to the available bandwidth and the bit rate conversion information.
Abstract:
Method and system for dynamic provision of service conveying packets to groups of end-users, each group of end-users is coupled to the system via a bandwidth limited media, the system including: a router, operative to receive service conveying packets and to provide to each group of end-users group associated service conveying packets; a session manager, coupled to the router, said session manager providing routing instructions to said router, for dynamically selecting group associated service conveying packets out of the received service conveying packets. At least some of the service conveying packets comprise media signals.

Abstract:
This disclosure provides systems and methods for transmitting content to users. In some implementations, a system can include a session manager operable to initiate a unicast session with an end user device over a dedicated channel and to transmit a unicast multimedia stream associated with the unicast session. The unicast multimedia stream can include service identifier that is recognizable to the end user. The system can also include an interface operable to receive a transmission command that includes the end-user recognizable service identifier, and to transmit the content associated with the multimedia stream to the end user device in response to the content transmission command.
Abstract:
A method for providing programs, the method includes: (i) providing a program multiplex to multiple users device; (ii) considering a removal of at least one program from the multiplex in response to program viewing parameters; (iii) allowing at least one user to respond to a possible removal of the program; and (iv) determining whether to remove the al least one program in response to received user removal responses. A user device that includes a transceiver unit that is connected to a controller, wherein the device is adapted to receive a program multiplex, to receive an indication that at least one program is to be removed from the multiplex, and to selectively transmit a program removal response.
Abstract:
A method for providing service to an end user, the method includes: converting images to multiple end user device readable pictures; receiving a request from an end user to display at least one image, wherein the request is conveyed over a TVOD infrastructure; and providing the end user with a stream of end user device readable pictures that includes at least one end user device readable picture that corresponds to the requested image.
Abstract:
A method and system for providing video on demand, the method includes: (i) sending, by a resource manager, authorized media stream identification information to a modulation and radio frequency transmitter; (ii) receiving, by a radio frequency transmitter, at least one media stream encapsulated within addressable packets; wherein the at least one media stream is associated with corresponding received identification information; and (iii) determining, by the modulation and radio frequency transmitter, whether to modulate and transmit the received media stream in response to relationship between the authorized media stream identification information and between the receives identification information.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for defining a compression and reconstruction scheme of a media stream, for generating and transmitting a base media layer and enhancement data layers and for reconstructing compressed representations of the media stream from the base media layer and the enhancement data layers.
Abstract:
The invention provides a system and a method for providing a multiplexed sequence, the multiplexed sequence including at least one sequence of basic media data units/modified basic media data units, the system and method are responsive to at least one characteristics (such as quality, quality degradation, compression level and the like, a combination of at least two of the characteristics) of at least of some of the basic media data units. The invention provides a method for generating a multiplexed sequence, the method including the steps of: receiving at least one basic media data unit sequence; determining a modification priority of a plurality of basic media data units of the received at least one basic media data unit sequence; selecting basic media data units to be modified, in response to the modification priority; modifying each of the selected basic media data units to provide corresponding modified basic media data units; wherein a modified selected basic media data unit is smaller than the corresponding selected basic media data unit; replacing selected basic media data units with the corresponding modified basic media data units in response to a comparison between the basic media data units and the corresponding modified basic media data units to provide replacing basic media data units; and multiplexing replacing basic media data units and basic media data units that were not replaced to provide the multiplexed sequence.
Abstract:
A system, method and a computer-readable medium having a computer-readable code embodied therein for wirelessly broadcasting advertisements to handheld television receivers, the method includes: selecting a first advertisement to broadcast to a first group of handheld television receivers within a cell that are tuned to a first program; wherein the selecting is responsive to profiles of a first group of users that use the first group of handheld television receivers; selecting a second advertisement to broadcast to a second group of handheld television receivers within the cell that are tuned to a second program; wherein the selecting is responsive to profiles of a second group of users that use the second group of handheld television receivers; and wirelessly broadcasting a multiplex that comprises the first program, the second program, the first advertisement and the second advertisement.
