The hollow tip has an outer surface comprising a plurality of grooves. The hollow tool body and the hollow tip are disposed about the longitudinal axis and the hollow tip and hollow tool body are each defined in part by a common bore extending along the longitudinal axis.

摘要: An ultrasonic impact grinding assembly includes a base with a mount for connecting a workpiece to the base and a first tool arm. The ultrasonic impact grinding assembly also includes a second tool arm. The first tool arm and the second tool arm each include a base end, a distal end, at least one joint between the base end and the distal end, and at least one actuator configured to move the at least one joint. A first ultrasonic impact grinding tool head is connected to the distal end of the first tool arm. A second ultrasonic impact grinding tool head is connected to the distal end of the second tool arm.

摘要: A section of a gas turbine engine includes a ceramic component and a metallic component situated adjacent the ceramic component. The ceramic component and the metallic component are situated outside of a core flow path of the gas turbine engine. The section of a gas turbine engine also includes an interface between the ceramic component and a metallic component and a mullite-based coating disposed at the interface. The coating provides thermal protection to the ceramic component and the metallic component, and provides thermochemical protection against interaction between the ceramic component and the metallic component. A gas turbine engine and a method of protecting components in a gas turbine engine are also disclosed.

摘要: A method for processing a CMC airfoil includes nesting an airfoil fiber preform in a cavity of a fixture that has first and second tool segments, closing the fixture by rotating a first tool segment about a hinge, the closing causing the tool segments to clamp on a tail portion of the fiber preform and thereby conform the tail portion to the fixture. While in the fixture, the fiber preform is then partially densified with an interface coating material to form a partially densified fiber preform. While still in the fixture, one or more cooling holes are drilled into the trailing edge of the partially densified fiber preform. After the drilling, the partially densified fiber preform is removed from the fixture and further densified with a ceramic matrix material to form a fully densified CMC airfoil.
