A technique facilitates controlling flow of fluid along a flow passage. A flow control assembly is placed along a flow passage, and a bypass is routed past the flow control assembly. Flow along the bypass is controlled by a flow bypass mechanism which may be operated via a pressure or other interventionless application. The pressure, or other interventionless application, is used to actuate the flow bypass mechanism so as to selectively allow flow through the bypass.

A technique enables failsafe control over actuators used to actuate downhole tools. The technique may utilize a well system having a tool with an adjustable member. An actuation mechanism serves as a fail-as-is mechanism and works in cooperation with the adjustable member. The actuation member is shiftable upon receiving a predetermined input; however the actuation member does not move the adjustable member upon each shift. Once the actuation member has been shifted the requisite number of times to move the adjustable member to another position, at least one subsequent shift of the actuation member is not able to cause movement of the adjustable member. The result is a fail-as-is technique for ensuring the tool is not inadvertently actuated to another operational position.

A system and method is disclosed for managing the access to GPIO ports that are coupled to input pins of devices in the computer system. Access commands directed to a GPIO port are monitored. When an access command is detected, an interrupt is issued and an interrupt handler determines if the access command is authorized. If the command is authorized, the interrupt handler completes the access command and returns control to the software program that issued the access command. If the command is not authorized, the command is prevented from reaching the GPIO and the access attempt is logged. The GPIO ports that are monitored may be those GPIO ports that are coupled to an input or enable pin of a sensitive hardware component within the computer system.

A method for processing a system management interrupt (SMI) in a multi-processor information handling system including a boot processor and one or more application processors is provided. An SMI is generated by a particular application processor. A swap function is initiated, causing save state data associated with the particular application processor to be communicated to a boot processor SMI handler associated with the boot processor. The boot processor executes the boot processor SMI handler to process the SMI, the boot processor SMI handler using at least the save state data communicated to the boot processor by the swap function to process the SMI.

In one embodiment, in response to determining that an information handling system (“IHS”) is in a first state, it is determined whether an interrupt was caused by a source included in a first group of potential sources. Also, in response to determining that the IHS is in a second state, it is determined whether the interrupt was caused in a source included in a second group of potential sources. In another embodiment, in response to determining that an IHS is in a first state, a source of an interrupt request is determined by checking potential sources in response to a first previously determined sequence. Also, in response to determining that the IHS is in a second state, the source of the interrupt request is determined by checking the potential sources in response to a second previously determined sequence.

A valve assembly to control the intake of fluid. The valve assembly has a valve body and a valve choke disposed therein. The valve choke has a choke bore through the interior of the valve choke. The valve choke has a plurality of orifices to the choke bore spaced at intervals along the valve choke. A seal is disposed between the valve body and valve choke. The valve system is operable to position the valve choke so that the seal is positioned between the valve body and the valve choke at the intervals between the plurality of orifices.

Embodiments of the present invention disclose apparatus and methods that can be used to mechanically actuate a downhole tool with an expandable shifting tool. One embodiment of the invention is an expandable shifting tool comprising a housing having an outer diameter and a plurality of radially extendable elements. The radially extendable elements are longitudinally separated from each other and each extendable element is at least partially contained within the housing. The extendable elements are capable of moving between an extended position and a retracted position and are biased towards the extended position.
